If you have a drivers license you should know the answer. Turning right on red must yield to any green light.

That was a bit of a silly answer. There are millions of people out there that have a driver's license and still get pulled over each year for not knowing, or following, the road regulations.

How is it known that millions of people don't know the law and do this? I don't have any data, but I think that if you drive (have a drivers license) , the probability of knowing this basic rule of the road must be very high, certainly the majority. (the poll result suggests this.) It's very basic driving knowledge, let alone common sense. Not knowing the purpose of the question, my answer wasn't silly

The reason I posted this thread is because I was driving the other day and ran into this situation. I had a green arrow to turn left and someone came flying up to a red light to turn right onto the same road I was turning onto and didn't stop and almost ran into my car so I honked at him and he gave me the finger... I just wanted to see if it is common knowledge that the green arrow has the right away. It does seem like a no brainer that any green light has priority over any red light but I thought I would ask anyways.

Yes, that is why you should be on the look out always.. He was lucky this time, next time he may hit someone and seriously hurt someone or killed, then him being in a hurry will be a major problem. Or a cop will be close by and he will get a ticket..

I would of let him him my car, he would most likely also get sited for that infraction.. so his insurance rates will go up high..

just my opinion

jenn,

To be extra certain that someone I don't see doesn't come out of nowhere and hit me because I was paying more attention to the horn behind instead of the road ahead.

jenn,

On my obnoxious days, that honk from behind is my signal to stay at a full stop and wait for the light to turn green before making the turn.

Yodrak

I've had people honk at me for coming to a full stop before taking a right on red. They just wanna speed right through. Stupid a$$holes!

Why do you do that?

Yodrak

 I understand now. LOL. When I read it, I thought you meant that you honk at people from behind to try to get them to *not* take a right on red.

Yeah, seems a no brainer. There is that percentage of the driving pubic that are bad drivers. Either they don't know the rules, or they know them and don't follow them. Maybe it's just me getting old, but it seems that the percentage of stupid drivers is increasing. When I said "if you have a license" I meant anyone, not you specifically. Sorry.

jenn,

I understand your response now, also! Another reminder that writer and reader often see the same words as saying two different things.

No problem... I assumed that it was implied that I was driving and that I do have a license.

If a person is turning left at a light with a left turn arrow and it's green and another person is turning right on a red light onto the same road who has the right of way?

A person turning left with a green left turn arrow has the right of way..the person turning right on a red light should yield
