What do you answer on the very first item on the i-864? Where it says "1. __________________________ am the sponsor submitting this affidavit because..."

You need an attorney to fill up this form. Anyway sponsor name must be there.

No you don't, you can complete the entire package without a lawyer if you take the time to learn about the process.
