Let me know how it goes mate I have my medical on the 4th Feb.

Will do.

Went to the docs yesterday expecting to be a bit vague and get some vaccines etc out of them, but when I sat down with the nurse she opened my file on the computer and the doctor had left a long note basically saying "this guy is going for an American Visa, wants vaccines/titers of many varieties, I've told him he can't have anything so don't give him anything". I came away with the first of two MMR vaccines (I got my originals in 1981, at which time the vaccine excluded a mumps vaccine and they have a free catchup service going on, so that was covered). Went to a travel doc this morning and got a flu jab for £10 and the first of three diptheria/tetanus/polio vaccines for £30 - that's everything, right? My understanding is once you're underway with the mmr/dtep vaccines, that's enough? Got all my docs with stamps too so I think I'm set.

Well done mate.

MMR check all done BUT make sure you have the 2nd part (after your medical about a month from the first) better to get it here free and easier than in the US. You will need it for AOS or when you apply for naturalisation.

Flu jab check all good.

DTP jab great they will waive other two as there is insufficient time between injections. Same as above get them all done before you go to US so you can rest assured all done!

A real pain to get this done but trust me better than panicking or being held up at the medical.

BTW - Your doc is a freak mate good job the nurse was more friendly.

Let me know how the medical at Knightsbridge goes be interested to know what to expect.

(fingers crossed mate)

Sorry but do you need the flu jab? It does say only in season and only for a certain age?. My doctor said i would be "lucky" to get a flu jab now!

I got my records printed off and the nurse stamped them with the practice stamp and signed & dated them, is this ok?

Plus like you guys i am trying to work out what i need also (I am 30), I had

1984 - First DTP + Polio

1984 - Second DTP + Polio

1984 - Third DTP + Polio

1985 - Measles

1994 - Measles/ Rubella

1998 - Booster DT + Polio

1999 - Single Meningitis C

2007 - Infectious Dis: Prevent/ Control

2008 - 1st Hep A & Typhoid

2008 - DT (Double) = Polio

From what i think i only need the Mumps as i didn't have the MMR

Look further up this thread I think one of the posters rang Knightsbridge and asked (as did I) they advised between Nov March you do have to had the flu jab. If its difficult to get go to Boots its £13 still cheaper than Knightsbridge doc. Ensure you get a document.

Had the medical yesterday - went fine. I went to the Knightsbridge near Bond street tube. My appointment was at 1:10 but I showed up at 12:40. It's a big door on the corner, I rang the bell for Knightsbridge and they buzzed me in without saying anything. The door to the surgery is on the left, inside there's two windows on the right, the lady there took my docs (passport, police cert, immunisation docs, filled out and singed form) and gave me a form to fill out (pretty much the same as the one you bring with). I went into the waiting room (further on to the right), filled out the form, and took it back. They said they'd call me shortly. At around 1:10 I went into a room and had a quick chat about my vaccines - the lady had missed that there were two pages in my book about vaccines I'd had and was going to give me a jab. She asked if I'd ever had chicken pox (I said yes). She said to make sure I get the rest of my shots in case I need to get medical insurance in the US. I was in there maybe 2/3 minuntes. I went directly from there to the xray room (this was not the experience of other people who were in there, but I got lucky). Took off my jacket and tshirt, stood against the plate thing with my arms in a super awkward pose, took a deep breath, then he started chatting while he was processing it (loaded it up, corrected it on the screen so it was clearer, then burned it to a CD and stuck on some labels), then I went back to the waiting room. I was in there for maybe 4-5 minutes. At about 1:32 I was called in to the doctor. We had a chat about my medical history - I'd said I used to smoke and we talked about how much, which she wrote on a form. She asked if I'd ever had any resperitory problems, I said I used to get bronchitis a lot when I was smoking, she said that was likely asthma and put this all on the form. She asked if I'd ever taken any illegal drugs, I said no, she said "this does include marijuana" and I said no again. Then I sat on the bed thing and she checked my vision against a chart on the wall, then checked them with a light/microscope thing, following which she checked my ears. After that she told me to take off everything but my boxers and lie down. Getting hazy now but I remeber she checked my lymph nodes, had a listen to my chest and back, then put on rubber gloves and took a blood sample, pressed on my abdomen a bit, then asked me to pull down my boxers and had a bit of a root round. After that she told me to put everything back on and went back to doing some paperwork. From memory she asked me again about marijuana, and I said no again - she said everyone always forgets that marijuana is included in "illegal drugs". She told me if I ever get beta blockers to mention the possible asthma, but otherwise she was giving me a full pass, and if anything serious comes back from the bloods, I'd hear about it in the next few days. Was in there around 15 minutes and we chatted away the whole time - she was really nice and I was 100% at ease. I went back to the waiting room to wait to be called to pay, which I was about two minutes later. The lady at the window also gave me my "vaccination documentation worksheet" and said to keep a few copies of it as I might need it in America. Then I was all done! All told I was in there for an hour and 10 minutes. There were a few other people in there at the same time who went through things in a different order. Everyone was really nice and it was a very easy process - nothing to worry about.

For anyone stumbling across this, if you are an adult, you (at the time of writing) need to have records for:

-recent Flu jab

-up to date Hep A/Hep B

-Meningococcal

-Mumps

-Measles

-Pneumococcal

-Pertussis

-Polio

-Rubella

-Tetanus and diptheria

-Varicella (N/A for London applicants as vaccine not used in the UK)

I had all the normal vaccinations as a child, but gaps in my records (ie. for things I had done at school like tetanus booster etc). So, I had quite a few done locally in advance of the medical. (No date for my medical just yet).

Good luck!

NB: You musty have records for all of the above. From what I have been told, no official doctor's records = didn't happen as far as they are concerned.

Great thanks!

I went to the doctors last week, she provided me a print out with all my details at the top, name, dob & HNS number etc and a list of vaccinations and dates, she then stamped and signed it - is this acceptable? It looks so basic but i guess why does it need to be complex!

Guys, did all of you on this thread go through DCF?

Sounds good. Better than mine was. :) I just had a printout from their computer, no stamp or signature, and that was still enough.

So accoring to this page, as a 32 year old man, I need:

An antibody titers blood test showing proof of immunity to tetanus and diphtheria

An antibody titers blood test showing proof of immunity to MMR (mumps/measles/rubella).

An antibody titers blood test showing proof of immunity to chickenpox (varicella).

Influenza jab

Sound right? Can I get an antibody titers test on the NHS?

WTH? I'm confused. If I ( my wife I mean) has a list from her GP that shows all of her immunizations, does she still have to take all those AT blood tests?

Nope, as long as you have a signed print-out of her vaccinations, you should be fine from what I read

Doesn't even need to be signed. Just a list from the GP will do. My list was a print-out from the GP's computer system, with my full name, address and DOB on the top. No stamp/signature. They just want a clue.
