Another question, does this incident provide a reasonable argument for people not carrying guns in places like the cinema?

I didn't need this incident to argue that cinemas in the US are not places that people should take arms. Armed attacks are extremely rare and providing an armed response to a threat that barely exists is not sensible. Luckily, even while there are places where such things are legal, as yet most people agree that it's not sensible and does increase the risk of an unprovoked discharge so they leave their arms at home. Hopefully this state of affairs will not significantly change as time goes on.

not in the least. i'm posting my opinion - without making personal attacks.

actually it's the law that determines where one can carry, not the individual, as some places are still prohibited to carry.

i don't think it is either

You haven't posted an opinion, you have simply said my posts are opinions you dismiss. You can dismiss them without posting anything, that you feel it's necessary to do so is unnecessarily provocative as you as a moderator should know.

And again with the semantics, of course individual decision is confined by legal requirements. That takes nothing away from what I posted, nothing at all.

my personal code of conduct with arms does not matter to you. i see potential reasons to carry in public, and you do not. i don't consider being prudent at times being cavalier, but you do.

if you don't like the idea of firearms in public, don't carry one.

Sure it does. It matters to anyone within range of your bullet.

I don't think this is an example of a copy cat killer from the Aurora incident.

The question was why should one feel the need to carry in a movie theater. If I was out for dinner and a movie it would be safer to keep my gun with me than leave it unattended for a gang banger to steal out of my car. Cars get broken into all the time.

years and years before the aurora shooting, every single time i went to the theater, the scenario of a shooter/killer in the audience crossed my mind. i rarely go to the theater anymore, but when i do, i still think about the possibility of such a thing occuring. every time. my son goes with friends, it's all i think about. these thoughts have never prompted me to start carrying a gun everywhere i go or keeping my son at home until he can carry a gun. dry.png i am of the mindset that these thoughts are intrusive and should be dealt with by minimizing their paranoid effects, not feeding them. intrusive thoughts are normally based in complete reality but drenched in hyperparanoia.

long story short..anxiety is tiring and carrying a gun is the easiest and dumbest way to feel at ease. imo, most of you concealed carry fanatics need to man up and take control of your ocd tendancies.

That passes as a sensible answer for you? If the gun is not safe in the car, don't put it in the car. Why do you NEED IT?

yet what i do post isn't a personal attack on another member.

while individual decision is confined by legal requirements, that is the crux of the issue. was the individual breaking the law by carrying? no. just his actions were unwarranted and a violation of the law.

not to mention that doing so could put one liable for not having it secured properly.

Perhaps you drive a beater but some car models are targets for the people to steal. More than once I have had a car broken to before. I feel my gun is safer on me than left in my car. At times I need it for protection. Depends on where you are and have been. Many people don't live a sheltered life such as yourself. One cannot dress like a homeless person all the time. A few thousand Dollar suit and a good watch at times makes you a target.

I suppose the discussion could go back to why this guy carried his gun outside his house. Maybe he was afraid of another aurora. Maybe he was afraid of being accosted by some gang bangers enroute. So he brought a gun for protection and instead used it to murder an unarmed man over a civil dispute. I'm sure he had the best intentions strapping up before he left. Didn't matter in the end. He was empowered. Edited by GandD
