Crunch the numbers. Cops shoot more people (per capita) than law abiding civilians.

Dude in the theater was not a concealed permit holder. He was a cop.

Of course its going to be that way. A cops job is to go in to harms way. We'd need to have numbers that showed how many cops were involved with shootings and then further break down that number into how many were active, off duty, retired, or dismissed. I like that you tuck this situation neatly into the "this is why cops shouldn't be armed bag"

He is a retired cop, which means he would have to apply and qualify for a ccw just like everyone else.

Gun aficionados like to sweep a lot of things under the rug.

I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.

Absolutely. He would've been a concealed handgun licensee with training and, most likely, an attitude reflective of a defensive posture instead of the typical assertive, "I'm in charge here how dare you question my authority" law enforcement attitude.

Funny how it's not relevant once it no longer fits your argument. It was relevant up till page three or so.

So, again, I'm asking about cops and training... all you "regular people shouldn't have guns" folks are now switching it up on us and saying cops shouldn't have guns?

Now you're against cops having guns? Which is it?

Only cops have the authority to kill someone?

What exactly are you trying to argue? No one should have guns in a movie theater nor should anyone feel it is right to use them to shoot someone dead just because they find that person's behaviour irritating. I don't care if they are an off duty cop, a retired cop or someone who has never been a cop. It was wrong, it was stupid and there is no excuse for it.

That you want to pretend that somehow civilians with guns are less likely to behave in this way than cops, ex cops or off duty cops as if this is relevant just shows how ridiculous the arguments of some gun aficionados are. All we need now is for one of you gun aficionados to state that he was right because after provoking an argument he concluded the argument by killing his opponent and that he had the right to do that and we have the culmination of gun aficionado stupidity and you wonder why some of us non gun aficionados question your right to be one of the people on the planet who should carry a gun amongst the vast majority of us who do not? Carry guns on firing ranges, carry guns out hunting but leave your guns at home when you go out on the town. Is that really such a difficult thing to do or is your fear of the real world around you so great that you honestly believe that this is a sensible and justified behaviour?

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

That's why we need iq tests for voters and gun aficionados.

The craziest thing about the 2nd amendment is that it doesn't take ones intellect into account before allowing them to carry a weapon that could end another persons life in a blink of an eye. That's effed up.

Does anyone here actually think that the guy was justified for shooting and killing someone who threw popcorn?

I'm sure that some here believe it was justified. It wasn't, of course. It is another case of a "good guy with a gun" instigating a confrontation and then turning into the bad guy with a gun. If the author of Florida's "Stand Your Ground" law had his way, the statute would be amended to ensure that nobody could claim self defense in a situation where they felt threatened as a result of a confrontation they caused. That defense was never meant to be covered under the statute but hundreds of people have gotten away with murder because it was.
