I always wondered like The Muslim countries and how that's forbidden and could basically get a person killed. Okay good to know thank you Gegel.

Indonesia is one of most populous Muslim countries in the world. Though same sex marriage is not legal as well as different religions marriage but the government is not prosecuted someone because of those factors. The laws just not recognized it.

You can be a gay, lesbian, or marrying someone from different religion in Indonesia and no one bothers to questioning your sexuality or people come knocking your door because your choice to married someone from a different religion.

According to the Pew Research Center in 2010 there were 49 Muslim-majority countries.[10]Around 62% of the world's Muslims live in South and Southeast Asia, with over 1 billion adherents.[11] The largest Muslim population in a country is in Indonesia, a secular nation home to 12.7% of the world's Muslims, followed by Pakistan (11.0%), India (10.9%), and Bangladesh(9.2%).[3][12] About 20% of Muslims live in Arab countries.[13] In the Middle East, the non-Arab countries of Turkey and Iran are the largest Muslim-majority countries; in Africa, Egypt andNigeria have the most populous Muslim communities.[3][12]

Wow. So they are giving out visa's to some when the laws in the states are unequal. What if they can't get marriedas that state it is illegal to do so? Sounds like they are not following the law.

The feds ruled that they would accept a marriage in a state where its legal. I.e. someone gets married in Minnesota, where gay marriage is legal, the feds will recognize that marriage even if the state they live in doesn't. This applies to more than just immigration. the IRS said they'd be following the same rules.

Part of DOMA was ruled unconstitutional at the federal level by the supreme court on June 26, 2013. They still allow individual states to not honor the marriages, but that is currently being challenged as well.

Thanks. I need links. I am stirring up a few sites I belong to and right now all want to start pestering the Senators and Congressman.

Google is your friend. Lots of DOMA links are available.. I don't know why you are so upset.. its a federal agency following a ruling on a federal law..

Gay marriage is legal in 17 states now and is moving towards even more. I just came back from a cruise via Houston and when my husband and I approached the counter, he presented his green card/passport and I presented my passport. Didn't even bat an eye. Federal law applies at CBP, not state law.

And here is the link of the State Dept where you can find the directive in regards to family based visas for all couples:

It is worth reading, for it will help dissipate a lot of misconceptions about the ruling and what it really means.

And that is the one thing that many seem not to understand and the cause for much misunderstanding. A couple can marry in one state and live in another, where their marriage is not recognized and still be afforded all the rights and obligations guaranteed by the constitution.

The reason for many to be upset is none other than unawareness and lack of understanding of our legal system.

I thought a bit more about this.. I don't understand why you feel the need to start pestering people.. Its been going on for months, you didn't even know about it, and you've experienced no harm, based on your lack of knowledge of it even happening..

unless something harms you, why are you so concerned?
