Hi,

im just wondering what this means, on the knightsbridge medical website under "what to bring to appointment" it lists:

  • Appointment letter from the United States Embassy
However I don't have one, and am under the impression I won't get one until I complete the medical, so what do i do?
thanks!

You'll be alright. Take along your Packet 3 letter if you have it. The whole "appointment letter" thing is more aimed at CR/IR-1's.

One more question, I am going to be having my medical in February, however I won't be moving to the US until May/June, do I need to get the flu jab?

My medical is at the end of the month and I won't be moving over til July so I'm in the same boat. As I understand it, if you've had all the required shots before the medical (or during it), at the end of your medical you're given a form certifying that you've had the required vaccinations. This form is then used for the AOS process (as long as AOS is filed for within a year of the medical), meaning you won't need to go to the trouble and expense of having a medical with a civil surgeon in the USA.

Even though it won't be flu season when you arrive and apply for AOS, you'll have had the flu jab for the season before you arrived so technically you'll be immunised against that year's flu virus.

Again, that's the situation as I understand it, I might be wrong! tongue.png

I'm not 100% sure. Nich's the master (well, mistress really) of vaccinations and Knightsbridge, so I'll defer to her wisdom on this one.

Yeah. So in other words -

If your AOS is adjudicated any other time than Oct 1st - Mar 31st, you don't need your Flu shot.

If your AOS is adjudicated during that time BUT you had your medical outside of those dates, you should still be alright without a Flu shot assuming your DS-3025 is fully complete on all other counts.

It's only when you have your medical during that time period AND AOS is adjudicated then as well that you need to have it.

Edit: Forgot to mention it's when the AOS is adjudicated as Nich has mentioned. Personally, I had mine anyway as I have asthma and therefore I get it free every year on the NHS anyway. And the above all assumes you get a competent person at USCIS who knows what they're doing, of course.

If your medical is in February, then get a required flu jab and save yourself worries down the road. Yes it is possible to be okay without it, depending on the date of your AOS interview or adjudication (if no interview). But you know you can't predict immigration timelines. So follow the rules and get the jab.

But it's so cheap ($20) so why not just get it when/if I need it in the US?

I don't see the advantage to having to before?

Do you want to spend $20 on a Flu shot now, or $1000 when USCIS rejects your DS-3025 and you have to go to a Civil Surgeon to get I-693 done instead, and they insist on you having a full medical instead of just copying your vaccinations onto a form?

Difference is you can only get it from a civil surgeon in the US. Not just a regular boots like you can in the UK before the Kinghsbridge medical

Civil surgeon to get 1 dinky flu shot might be way more expensive, as they may require a full exam instead of being helpful and only doing one shot. $$$

Edited: Ah I see someone beat me to the response. Still, worth it to do it now.

Read this from someone who did not get it done in advance

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/462793-medical-again-in-usa-due-to-incomplete-vaccination-record/

Or this http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/461012-medical-exam-for-aos-after-k1/

These are just two examples of hundreds, from many countries, I have read and replied to.

Wouldn't it be easier to put a completed DS-3025 in you AOS packet and not have to go through these experiences?
