My guess is that the BC cannot be changed as that is the name you were given at birth and thus it is your legal name until you decided to change it. So now you will complete forms and fill in the "other names used" section with the BC name. You might want to change your passport as the ticket for international travel must match the government issued ID--i.e. your passport--and if your GC is changed you will have issues on being allowed to board the airplane by the airlines--think of it like a married person with the married name on the GC and the maiden name on the passport and boarding pass. If it is too difficult to change your passport, you can always wait if/until you become a USC and get the US passport in the new name.

Good luck,

Dave

Wife uses her maiden on her home country passport and married name on her US passport, has to show both when leaving, but no problem because she has photo ID in addition for both. Crooks in her home country want 3,500 bucks to change it.

First name change may be a problem, really don't have any experience on this. Wife doesn't like her first name either that she got stuck with, but you can use any nickname you so desire on a daily basis. Except for any legal documents, then you have to use your given name.

Ha, when meeting new people, they always ask me what I prefer to be called, just reply, Hey You is fine.

Wife is forced by our DOS with an agreement with her home country to maintain her foreign passport, seems to be a contradiction with her oath to the USCIS. But the DOS is a different governmental agency than the USCIS, and each has their own rules you have to follow. In my dealings with various governmental agencies, always running into contradictory problems like this. Ha, tell them to go out back and fight it out between themselves and let me know what they decide. Too many damned different agencies in this country.

never mind I figured out that's it's like impossible to change it in my country but will that affect my family when I petition for them to bring them to the U.S.? Because my birth certificate says my old name

Like on the I-130 list your present name first, then a space for all the other legal names you used.

Like if you were married and divorced and petitioning for a child, have to send in copies of the paper trail to prove relationship to that child. Like your previous marriage certificate, divorce papers, new marriage certificate, a copy of your green card or citizenship certificate, and a copy of the birth certificate of that child plus translated into English if that is necessary.

Its all in the I-130 instruction sheet.
