DS160---Will they really contact employers?

My fiance filled out the DS160 yesterday and was anxious when it asked for all his employer's contact details. We're hoping to have his visa soon but he's not planning to leave the UK until July so he can work for a few more months and continue to save money, and he hasn't yet told his employer that he's planning on quitting and moving to America, just because it might create an awkward situation at work, or they might go so far as to fire him so they can get a jump on training someone new. So now we're nervous that the embassy is going to call his work to confirm his identity and the fact that he really does work there, and even if they don't say exactly what it's for, a call from the US embassy confirming who he is would still obviously look a little suspicious. Does anyone know if this is actually something to be worried about? Does the embassy really call employers, or is it just a formality on the DS160?

I think they just want to find out if he works atTerrorist Inc or Bombmakers 'R Us so they can quiz him more or put him through more security checks.

I have never heard of it happening in the UK.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Ooh they've yet to open an Devon branch so I'm safe lol. I did wonder about them contacting employers too, am glad they don't although my boss is aware I'm leaving.
