As this seems so out of kilter with other people's experience, are you absolutely certain that you have been scheduled a K1 visa appointment and not a visitor's visa? Did they e-mail you confirmation?

I'm echoing this. That line is known as the "Misinformation Line" for a good reason.

"What's yours is mine!"

I went through this process in the Summer of last year. I have a feeling there was a way to book interviews at the embassy for other types of visas, but NOT a K1. Please ensure you both double check as sometimes there's confusion with IV (Immigrant Visas) and Non-Immigrant Visas (NIV). A K1 is classed as the latter but is also treated as somewhat special. I'd call DOS or send an online information form to the London embassy asking if you do have an appointment. Good luck.

When you call the embassy, you do not speak to the immigrant visa unit. You get the people who set up non-immigrant appointments. They think you want a tourist, student, etc interview.

Non-immigrant page instructions:

With limited exceptions, nonimmigrant visa applicants aged 14 to 79 are required to schedule an appointment for an interview with a U.S. consular officer. The Embassy does not accept walk-in applications. If you are under 14 or 80 and over, please click here for more information. You are not required to wait until your U.S. visa expires before applying.

Before begining the application process, you are required to determine which type of visa is appropriate for travel. Please select "Nonimmigrant Visa Categories" from the left hand menu for information.

List of non-immigrant visas these instructions apply to http://london.usembassy.gov/niv/niv_visa_categories.html

Applying for a non-immigrant visa. Step 1- select your visa. K1 is not there.

http://london.usembassy.gov/niv/index.html

A K1 and those doing DCF are processed by the immigrant visa unit. You wait for the IVU to give an appointment.

The IR1/CR1s processing at NVC wait for NVC to dish out their appointment and also interview with the IVU.

Thank you Anna Grant, Jessica Callum and others, who have suggested that we may have received some misinformation. While we are still in the process of trying to get a definitive answer, it appears that you are correct - the agent who booked our appt at 703-439-2367 should not have booked our appointment. The frustrating part is we were merely trying to get a status update from him - he was the one who suggested we book the appointment, despite our telling him we do not have an appointment letter. The other frustrating thing is that we have already booked a flight from Edinburgh to London, and hotel and this could end up being wasted money...

After 4 additional phone calls and getting different answers each time (i.e. the "Misinformation Line"), we were given a link to a contact form at the Embassy, who hopefully can advise us of what to do next. It seems likely we'll be told to just wait for the appointment letter, I will post when I have further update. A shame this has been such a roller coaster of a day... sad.png

Get the US citizen to call this number (202) 485-7600 in the options press 1 then 0 and you will speak to someone ask them for the interview date they'll ask for you names dates of birth and case number and they'll tell you. This is the DOS number. The uk citizen can call this too by adding +1 to the beginning but it will be costly to call the US.

Remember this is the DOS

Don't rely on getting your interview letter my interview is a week away and I never received it. Call that's number and find out trust me I did it this way. Sorry you was messed around.

We ended up scheduling the interview for this coming Monday, gave us time to schedule a flight from Edinburgh down to London... very excited!

If this is not common knowledge, do you think we should create a new post to let people know they can schedule their interviews?

Thanks all,

Rob and Adrian

Edited: I first composed a message before seeing your last post that it was an error they made. Sorry to hear, but eventually it will all work out. So is your 1/27 appointment on the timeline correct or was that the error? Our interview date is six weeks after the embassy logged in the medical results...We found out by calling DOS and got the info by phone a few days before my fiance received the interview letter. Interview in two days!

Hi,

My partner tried calling the DOS this morning as our status changed on Tuesday. However they said they couldn't give us information about it and that we had to call London????

Anyone else had this problem?

Not at all they told me our interview date. Call again sounds like you got someone who just doesn't want to do anything, make sure you press 1 then 0 on the options to get through to the right place

Yes, we called the number everyone else has been calling on this feed

I seem to get to typical responses from that number.

1.) Helpful, and corteous

2.) What do you want? We dont have it, call somewhere else. (Often spoken by someone with a heavy latino accent, or barely comprehendable mumble)

Just call again.

I would echo calling again. Some people are helpful on that line; some people are not so helpful.

You are able to call them you know? It doesn't have to be the USC who calls, although it is often easier because of the time difference. I did ALL the calling for us - when I was in the UK, I would use Skype to place the calls. At least DOS doesn't put you on hold for as long as NVC!

Just called DOS per your suggestion Jessica and Anna (despite the unwavering "no status" on our application at CEAC.) At last, success!!! DOS confirmed that the Embassy HAS finally scheduled our interview - Feb 21 at 10 am!!! Told us not to worry about the no status, updating the website sometimes lags. They suggested we will most likely receive our appointment letter in the next couple weeks, but to call (the embassy) if we don't see it by then. What a great weight I feel lifted off us!! Thank you so much to all of you for helping us get through this nerve wracking time!
