Have already filed for AOS last month and wife had no problem with social security card but they said they could not give one to her son (11 years old) because he is k-2. Is there a resource somewhere that has a good explanation for the process for children of k-1? His school would like to have his ssn.

K-2 is not eligible to get an SSN with just the I-94 like a K-1 can. You must wait for the son's EAD and you use that to get his SSN.

Former K-2 visa holder needs either an EAD or their Green Card in order to obtain a SSN card.

Completed: K1/K2 (271 days) - AOS/EAD/AP (134 days) - ROC (279 days)
