Hello,

Long story short , here goes my journey:

2009-Entered the US with Conditional Green Card

2010-Filed Jointly to Remove Conditions

2011- April 4, my husband dies unexpectedly (while waiting for the Green Card)

2011, April 11-receive Green Card in Mail .

2014-Almost 4 years since I have been to the States. I could not file for Citizenship earlier since my husband died.

Little concerned about 1 week gap (April 4-11)-I did send the letter to USCIS but as you all could tell my mental state was not right and I even didn't have enough time to realize what was going on with me.

Consulted with Several Lawyers afterwards who told me that 1 week gap is not the problem since my Green Card might have been approved earlier than April 11.

While filing the paperwork, should I send the letter stating all these or just wait until I am asked questions.

I intend to send the copies of my Tax Returns, where 3 of them will be joint ....

Please advise

Thank you

Hello

First of all I want to say that I'm sorry for your loss. Now to answer your question you don't have to be worried about USCIS since death is not something you control. You didn't do anything wrong and you didn't fraud USCIS to get the green card. When you file for citizenship you will have to indicate that you are a widow and you will have to send your husbands death certificate. That should take care of everything for that part. You don't have to write any explanation letter at all.

for the taxes as you said send all the taxes you filed joint and the ones you filed by yourself.

please don't worry because you are not at fault. And you didn't fraud the government for the green card. Its God's will to take him away, USCIS know that and they won't give you a hard time for it. Now maybe you will be asked about your husband. Good luck.
