Hi All,

Long time since I am posted. My husband who is from Tunisia we just found out Wednesday that his brother passed away. cray5ol.gif We were unable to attend the funeral due to financial issues. But I have taken the last few days off of work we have something called bareevement leave I was told I had up to 3 days by my manager but I am not sure if I need to bring something into work to show proof of the death. As this would be very difficult as it did not take place here in the US and would be in arabic if there was anything. I've stayed home to greeve with my husband and be here for support there is no way I could leave him home alone. (If I did what kind of heartless person would I be?) Is there anybody out there is there some place on the web i can go to, to find a Tunisian obituary or some sort of notice to show my work? If anybody knows anything any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Sunny

Perhaps it is awkward, but can you ask your husband to have someone in his family send you a copy? Recently my husband's grandfather died and so he asked him mom to get a copy of the certificate from the family book. Not sure if they have family books in Tunisia. It was in Arabic and French, but he just explained to personnel what the different things said.

Did your employer ask for an obituary? I have taken time off from work a few times for a death in the family and was never asked for proof of the death. Unless they ask I wouldn't worry about it.

Sunny I am so sorry for your loss. My husband says that where he was from, they have someone go around and announce the death, but also it is now posted in various locations. If your employer doesn't ask for some type of notice, I wouldn't worry about it.

My employer does not require proof that a family member died in order to get bereavement leave. My uncle died a few years ago and I took the day of his funeral off. I didn't have to show any proof of attendance at the funeral. That being said, you may not get compensated or excused for more than a day or two due to the nature of the relationship. My employer only excuses and compensates for a day for non immediate family members. You should contact your HR dept. before going out of your way to obtain any proofs.
