Hello,

I arrived in the U.S. last year on a K1 visa from Australia so that me and my partner could get married and live here together. I lodged my Adjustment of Status forms in early November, and recently received a letter of notification for an interview to register for permanent residence / adjust status on Feb 6. We're really stoked with how quickly this has happened, considering how long the K1 visa process took!

I have a question about the documents I am required to take to the interview though. The letter says I need to take things like a completed medical exam, and sponsorship forms, if I haven't already submitted them. Those forms have already been submitted previously, so I won't need to take them along. But when it comes to police / court records, it doesn't say 'unless you have already submitted them'. I submitted detailed court records when I had my K1 visa interview in Australia, and they came over with me in my sealed K1 package, which was opened by an immigration official at the airport when I arrived (I know they were in there because I saw him flicking through all the pages). They held onto the package and said it would be sent to USCIS. I'm wondering if I need to get new copies of the court records to take to my interview though?

I have scans of the originals that I gave to the consulate officials at my K1 visa in Australia, so I was thinking I could just take print outs of them to my interview, just in case. But the letter I received says they need to be certified court records, not copies.

Any help would be greatly appreciated with this as I do not have much time to organize for originals to be ordered and sent from Australia. It just seems crazy to have to provide them with certified originals of documents that I know they already have.

Thank you!

The USCIS should have all your records from the sealed package and you shouldn't need to get anything that you needed to get the K1 visa originally. The letter sent to you is probably the same letter sent to most people who AOS, not just K1.

You will want to get them ordered, they may look for them in your file but others found they needed certified copies for every step up to citizenship.
