That's a nice area. There's alot of high end condos and businesses on Sathorn. Also, the BTS (skytrain) is right there, so you can get on the Skytrain and avoid alot of traffic. You can change the the MRT (subway) two stops away as well. Between the Skytrain and the subway, you can get to most of Bangkok. I used to live in State Tower which is a few blocks away. Check out the top of State Tower. They have a cool bar and restaurant up there. http://www.lebua.com/the-dome%C2'>

I don't know if any one area is better than the other for street food. It's frickin everywhere. That's basically how people eat there. I remember a couple blocks away from you under the Saphan Taksin BTS station there was a ton of street food vendors there in one place.

Absolutely. Just stay out of that stuff and away from those areas. I was there for 2010 mess. Didn't affect my trip one bit. I went down to the protests just to check it out. Don't go getting up on stage and making political speeches and you'll be fine. Some idiot foreigners had to learn this lesson the hard way as you can see here:

My personal opinion is that they got what they deserved and should have gotten more time.
