My K-1 fiance in VN is trying to get her single status document, basically saying she is free to get married. She will have the interview right before Tet. I looked over the appointment package P4 and it mentioned no such document. Is this document needed for her interview and visa?

Further, is this document needed for marriage in the US and adjustment of status (don't remember the form number). I doubt it, but just wanna double check. It may just be an unnecessary step or maybe she's planning to marry someone else in VN lol.

I don't believe it is required for K-1 Visa, but I did ask my fiancee to obtain one anyway. She got one last week and told me that this affidavit is only valid for 6 months. We're still early in the process but I just wanted her to be familiar with the process of obtaining one in case we need one in the future.

I only see that if your fiancée had been previously married you will need to provide a divorce document or a death certificate to show your fiancée is no longer married.

I married my wife in Vietnam. Vietnam requires this documentation for both parties. I went to the US consulate and got an affidavit stating I was single; only took an hour. My wife had two house registration books since she was 16 in two different towns. Getting a letter from her current home town about single status was easy. Getting a letter from her former village was a pain in the ### and took multiple trips. The people working in this tiny office saw me as a walking ATM and delayed us weeks.

Took me a bit to find this and I think States' offices will be all different but I went to the trouble to get this. Not sure if was needed or not. http://www.kdheks.gov/vital/apostilles_authentications.html

I don't believe you need it unless you're planning to get married in VN, which you are not based on your VJ profile status.

I never did but insisted that my wife (then-fiancee) get hers. She had never been married prior to her engagement to me. The consulate never asked to see it at her interview. It was a waste of time.

I thought it was a bit over the top, but documentation was all over the place a lot focused on marriage there like you suggest..and that definitely turned me off. This was easy enough so i figured better to have than not...just in case.
