Ah, I see where MBD is going with this and it's a good soundbyte to bring up. "Law abiding gun owners" is a lot like "People who support Obama for his policies." It's not real. But, since the government is the one making it up, and the government says it's okay to break some laws, then it's possible to still be a law abiding citizen even if you break some laws.

You just can't break the ones they don't want you to break.

Kind of like the same folks who can't stand Obama for his policies, yet bring this up even when the discussion has nothing to do with Obama in the first place. Like this thread, which has nothing to do with Obama, and like you who brought his name up for no other reason than "you don't like his policies".

I've been thoroughly background checked by the state AND the federal government. Keep that in mind when the NRA talks about law abiding gun owners. They're not the ones that check to make sure it's okay if we assert our privileges. The government does.

You should pay attention. I voted for Mccain the first time around, said that here quite a few times. Funny, I don't feel restricted. Are you worried that you won't pass a mental health background check?

And yet, Obama has nothing to do with this thread, but here we are talking about him. It seems like the folks who swear we love him, talk about him more than we do.

You either abide the law or you do not. If you have a misdemeanor, it means that not only did you not abide the law but you also got caught. Now, you are allowed to carry a gun despite your infractions but that does not make you a law abiding gun owner. It makes you a lawful gun owner. That's not the same.

I'll bring up Obama every single post. He's horrible. He hates this country and he's doing everything he can to make it worse. If you're in support of that, you should reconsider your position as an American.

Not only can I pass a mental health background check, I did pass one. I've been checked and re-checked and then checked once more. The issue I have with mental health background checks is just like this new executive order that Obama signed last week. If you are involuntarily committed to a mental health facility then you can't own arms.

Break out your "the government hates black people" hat for minute here and pretend it's a "the government hates gun owners" hat. If the government can involuntarily commit anyone (blacks, gun owners, political dissidents, etc.) to the loony bin for a few days and then let them go - then bar them of their right to bear arms - it's going to be pretty easy to disarm the opposition.

History tells us that's a very, very dangerous legal precedent to set. But, I'm sure you're going to tell me I'm just a crazy, gun nutter racist who hates Obama because he's black.

In regards to owning and carrying a firearm you are abiding the law. But that does not make you a law abiding gun owner because to be a law abiding gun owner, you have to be a law abiding person. Yet you admit that you are not a law abiding person. You're not breaking every law but you have broken some and even have a record to show for it.

And that's why you suspect. Because things were bad if not worse when Bush ran this country. Did you come here and rant about Bush? Because if you didn't, it's a clear double standard.

Considering that every time a person goes on a shooting rampage(Holmes, Lanza, Alexis to name a few) mental health has been the forefront. I don't think anyone with mental disorders should have access to firearms. That's just me.

That you believe the bolded is astonishing. Because his vision of America and what is best for it is not yours does not mean that he hates America or that he is un American. That you have bought the line that he is says more about you and your belief system than it does about the fitness of Obama to be president.

Oh, and anyone that believes the 'govmint' is going to try to systematically brand would be gun owners as mentally unstable and have them committed just to stop them getting firearms should seek therapy, that kink of paranoia is potentially dangerous. If it is simply hyperbole, it's simply not persuasive as a reason not to like Obama or his government so it can safely be ignored as just trash talk.
