I-751 Receipt, Using for Travel -- Original needed, or is a copy OK?

We filed the I-751 on 12/21/13, and got the receipt back really quickly!

Fátima is already visiting her elderly parents in Spain, and will need the receipt to get back into the US after her current Green Card expires.

Anyone know if a copy of the receipt is sufficient for her to have when she returns, or does she need me to get her the original for her to use?

Thanks!

Thought I would report on my investigations -- I called the USCIS info line, and they said that all questions about what you need to get through US Customs has to go through Customs and Border Protection (1-877-CBP-5511) . I called them and they told me definitively that you only need a copy of the I-751 receipt notice, not the original, to get back in the US with and expired Green Card.

Hmm. Everywhere I read here on VJ says you need the original; that a copy won't suffice. I wouldn't trust the word of just one CBP operator. But who knows, maybe they changed. Even so though, I'd still suggest bringing the original. I'd hate to see someone denied at the border because they didn't have the original notice.

You will not be denied at the border, because all CBP has to do is look up your A-number or receipt number, which will indicate that CR* status has been extended a year. Where you (almost certainly) will face an issue however, will be with the airline. Go with the original, or else you run the risk being denied boarding.
