I was just reading a thread and one of those "advertisement" links at the top said "I love my China bride"..."be treated like a KING for 7 days, tour of China, K-1/K-3 Visa..." Ummm.....I'm just wondering if this is what marriage means to anyone here? I would like to say more, but I'm so grossed out....

What marriage means to other should not bother you as it is not you who is being asked to take part in this marriage.... so why let it bother you....

Marriage means many thing to many people.... just because one way you find gross does not mean it is wrong or any less of a marriage...

I took her post to mean it's gross how the advertisement is making a person sound like a product....esp for the advert to be on a visa site...but that's my take on it only

I think it's always gross when ppl refer to their SO as if their nat'lty is like a breed of dog or an item that you can 'return' at the store

LisaD,

You scared me for a moment... I thought you wrote "breed like a dog" not "like a breed of dog"....

When I look at those words "I Love my China Bride" the first image that comes to my mind is a little porcelain China doll...the second image is "I Love my Child Bride" I think because those two phrases look very similar. Either way, it creeps me out.

So if my husband was to head up something with the title " I love my Scotch Bride" would you be as grossed out or may be you would think my husband was comparing me to a glass of scotch!!!!!

May be you should say your preseption of what things say grosses you out rather than what it actually says....

That's what you get for reading ads on the internet. Here's another tip..... Don't click on pop-ups for any reason.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

I agree with Lisa on this. It's pure marketing and perhaps it's playing up to some people's views of marriage as a commodity, but I'd like to think that most people don't look at relationships that way. Unfortunately, you don't have to look outside of our own country to see many people's own definition of what marriage is...all of which I'm sure would equally upset you.
