Hi all, we were approved on 12/20 for the K1 Visa and received the visa in the mail on 12/21. My question now is when my fiance arrives to the USA and she applies for the social security number will she be given a number that day or what is the wait time on that. Also since when you get a marriage license you usually fill in the person's social security number, would you just leave this blank and provide this information after the wedding to update the files at the courthouse? I'm curious because my fiance is arriving on 1/15 with the wedding on 1/20.

Nothing is automatic particularly when you are dealing with different agencies of the government. About two weeks after arrival you will need to go to the SSA and apply. The two weeks is needed for the transfer of information from DHS to SSA.

As far as a requirement of SSN for the marriage... this is all locally controlled so what is the situation in NV may not be the same in NY. You need to check locally where you intend to marry...

YMMV

Yes as far as I heard..Vegas you don't need a SSN but here in Idaho..They need a paper from SSA that you filed....So every state is different.. you need to find the local Court House..for your county..and call..
