Schools undoubtedly have a lot to deal with, but they shouldn't be in the business of abandoning students from adverse backgrounds because of behavioural issues. Of course, that's easier said than done - hence the zero-tolerance policies in the first place. Unfortunately, unless the education system gets a decent level of funding that allow them to tackle drug and gang issues effectively - the status quo will be maintained.

- Is it prejudiced, to assume Black children have more behavior issues than say Asian kids? I assume all kids are the same in this regard, how does the color of ones skin cause them to become a "behavioral" problem

-Ahh so it's a funding issue? Hadn't thought of that. How much would it cost to solve the problem?

You really do live in a weird world - where even parenting is somehow corrupted by politics. Parents are perfectly capable of disciplining their children without resorting to violent abuse.

Study: Spanked Children May Grow Up to Be Happier, More Successful

Young children spanked by their parents may grow up to be happier and more successful than those who have never been hit, a study has found.

According to the research, children spanked up to the age of 6 were likely as teenagers to perform better at school and were more likely to carry out volunteer work and to want to go to college than their peers who had never been physically disciplined.

But children who continued to be spanked into adolescence showed clear behavioral problems.

Children’s groups and lawmakers in the UK have tried several times to have physical chastisement by parents outlawed, the Times of London reported. They claim it is a form of abuse that causes long-term harm to children and say banning it would send a clear signal that violence is unacceptable.

However, Marjorie Gunnoe, professor of psychology at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, said her study showed there was insufficient evidence to deny parents the freedom to choose how they discipline their children.

“The claims made for not spanking children fail to hold up. They are not consistent with the data,” said Gunnoe. “I think of spanking as a dangerous tool, but there are times when there is a job big enough for a dangerous tool. You just don’t use it for all your jobs.”

Research into the effects of spanking was previously hampered by the inability to find enough children who had never been spanked, given its past cultural acceptability.

But Gunnoe’s work drew on a study of 2,600 people, about a quarter of whom had never been physically chastised.

Well its simple danno, in a class its probably obvious to the teacher which ones have behavioural issues. No one needs to assume anything.

Funding is a part of the problem, don't assume its the be all and end all. Not cutting the education budget would certainly be a start.

One study among many, Danno.

These people have an agenda, but the points they raise about that study are reasonable:

There's also this:

You should never post random articles alluding to research unless you've read the research in question, it creates a skewed view of a topic that's at odds with the facts.

Ok so funding is the problem.

So in other words, areas with the highest funding have the least behavioral problems and the lowest funded schools have the worst?

Is there a rough correlation there?

Is there anyone around you who can help you understand the written English language? I am certain that you have completely misunderstood what was written, and your counter-point illustrates it vividly.

Looks like they are grooming this child to be successful in life. You can pour all kinds of money into the school system and it will not do a thing to combat this upbringing . Where are the Chinese Tiger moms when you need them. Everything starts in the home. I know of a school that spends $/student in the top 10 schools in the country. Inner city and the average student misses close to 75 days/year .... Much of it is not attending school. Let alone their time outs for bad behavior. Parents cannot make their children attend school. (so they say) There would be hell to pay if I missed
