As the title suggests.

I was reading through the excellent guide posted today.....

One of the points was having ID to collect the passport/visa envelope from the courier...

I am currently in Brasil with work......passport etc is couriered to be delivered to parents address whilst away...

Surely my parents can sign to receive it?!

According to the DX Secure site:

You can choose any responsible person to receive or sign for a delivery on your behalf. This person must produce evidence of YOUR identity; for example your passport, driving licence, bank card or in some cases a utility bill if requested.

It'll have to be enough, aye. I suspect if they produce a combination of those things, perhaps with their own passport or driving license to prove they're your parents, the courier might be alright with that. I know the one who delivered my stuff wanted to see my ID, but others may be a bit looser with the rules. For example, when I had to get my passport replaced, the DX Secure guy then didn't worry about my ID, it was just a case of signing on the dotted line and that was that.

A lot of people report they don't ask for ID so maybe if you're lucky they won't ask your parents to show your smiley baby pic. :P
