Finding info about former spouses

Has anyone else had this headache and what did you do? I'm trying to find birthdates for former spouses-from 20 and 30 years ago. I did manage to get the divorce certificate for one- which does not have the birthdate on it. I can't get a certificate from the other as it doesn't show up at the courthouse and the central registry needs a birthdate to find it! I've done the google thing to no avail. I wonder if I should go plant myself at vital stats office- with a bucket full of money no doubt.....

I had to look up for some information of previous spouse from when we got divorced back in 1993. In state of Kentucky I just had to supply her name, maiden name and about when the divorce took place. Not sure what state you are trying to get it from but I would start by going (if possible) to the county clerks office where the divorce took place hopefully they have a record of the proceedings still.

This is in Canada. I can't believe I'm so stressed and haven't even filed the papers yet!!Apparently the record of my divorce is somehow missing at the courthouse where it was filed so there will be some kind of archival paper chase. Meanwhile I have to stay home waiting for delivery by courier of my birth certificate. Government officials here are very nice but aren't allowed to tell you things that are on the computer screen in front of them....I never dreamed my soulmate would be in another country!

maybe you've mistaken the courthouse? Just looking at my Canadian final divorce decree, to see if there's anything there that might help you. There are no birthdates on the certificate (It's called Form 36B: Certificate of Divorce), It has both our names and addresses and phone numbers at time of divorce as well as the lawyer's name, address and phone number. it also has the date and location of the marriage and the date of the "divorce order" (the date we filed) as well as the date the "divorce took effect" about a month later. Maybe if you have some of this other info to give them, they can search for it that way.

Just heard back from vital stats office, apparently they can't help regarding birthdates....I found a blurb on a different province that says you CAN get a certified letter of birth info on a previous spouse so am printing that to take to town.

I have the courthouse right and there is some kind of child custody/support record there for the date of the divorce, and now I have a "probable" file number from Ottawa so back to the courthouse.

It's the 325a form that wants birthdates and is driving me insane! Even once I have both divorce certificates I still need these wretched birthdates. I bet if this was a less civilised country I could slip someone a hundred bucks to accidentally turn away from their monitor for a minute....

If you have children you could reverse look up the parents and see if your ex's DOB is there. I'll never forget my ex's dob until my daughter no longer needs a travel consent form. Or ask your kid if they remember their other parent's birthdate?

Thanks for all suggestions. Was only with husband #1 for one year and it ended with me in hospital weighing 83 pounds, no wonder I don't remember the idiots birthdate! Extensive internet searching shows nothing. Will be going to camp out at vital stats tomorrow. The girl on the phone has said that they can see this stuff, but they can't give it to me!! Same with the divorce lady in Ottawa.

The amount of info I was able to get about my American fiancé before I even met him is absolutely staggering.

I hope no government employee gives you the information protected by the privacy act... that is something I really enjoyed in Canada yes.gif

If you do not find the information, you can add a note on a sheet attached to the form :) I had to do that for other information and there is a point when, if you can't find it, you can't find it

Thanks, I was hoping that might be an option. I've never felt so helpless and frustrated in my life. I have a feeling that's something I'm going to have to get used to.

I really don't think it's super necessary to have their birth date when you have the divorce decree.
