Hi guys. My husband recently moved here on a K1 visa and we married. We've already filed AOS. It seems like the transition has been very hard. I lived in Indonesia for 4 years so I understand but I'm pretty adaptable and not really one to want to be close to home. Can anyone give me any ideas? I know the youngest Indonesian son typically doesn't leave home. I'm feel so helpless. I want him to be happy. I even suggested him going back if it would make him happy. I would do anything for him to smile again. :(

Hi Izzylove,

Things are hard I think for any of us who are immigrating. First few months will be dreadful because of no work, no friends or immediate family nearby. There is no way around this, it's either stay or leave.

Try talking to him because I was homesick too for a while but now I am closer to my in-laws than ever and it really helps. I completely understand how you both must feel.

Making friends will make things better too, let him find an Indo community in your neighborhood.

Hope for the best for both of you!

Thank you for the reply! He has met some indonesian guys here but since he can't get a drivers license without an EAD, he's very limited on seeing them. I'm a nurse and I work anywhere from 48-60 hours a week at night. That has made things even harder but we need the money as we are hoping to buy a new house soon. I will try to get him involved in something around here and, hopefully, that'll help. :)

Hi there!

I think transitioning will be hard for everyone. I really am not looking forward to not having my own job and money, I will not like being solely dependent on my future husband but that is what I will endure for the first few months I am there. Maybe he just feel like he's not contributing to anything. Do you notice anything different about him when he get there? Try and talk to him about the thing that bothers him and address the issue. I wish you all the best!
