Hello I am Confused about tax evidence that they want in the N-400. it says in section 4 that they want:

4. Documents referring to you and your spouse:
a. Tax returns, bank accounts, leases, mortgages, or birth certificates of children; or
b. Internal Revenue Service (IRS)-certified copies of the income tax forms that you both filed for the past 3 years; or
c. An IRS tax return transcript for the last 3 years.
Can i just make copies of the tax returns I have or do I need to get them certified or get a transcript?
Thanks

Ideally, they want proof that you filed your taxes. Making copies of the tax returns forms you may or may not have sent to the IRS isn't necessarily proof, although it's better than nothing.

I suggest getting the tax return transcripts from the IRS. It's completely free and should keep USCIS happy. I ordered tax return transcripts for tax years 2010, 2011 and 2012 from the IRS and submitted those along with my N-400 application.

Yep, phone order or drop by your local IRS office and get your transcripts. Your filled forms mean nothing as they can be forged. Best! rolleyes.gif
