You enter the dependent info as of December 31 of the previous year, so December 31, 2013. It doesn't matter what the status is when you actually file the tax return. All that matters is the status on December 31.

Hi again dudeinTriBeCa - It sounds like it could be a problem with the IRS more than USCIS, however I don't know your circumstances and I don't have any experience in this field to give you advice.

As mentioned, perhaps raising the issue in another forum on VJ (the tax and finance spot) or seek professional advice regarding the implications with a professional would be a more informative path for you.

Good luck mate smile.png

Hi Jan filers! Long time lurker, first time poster here. I've been following this forum for a while and decided to sign up today. I am getting more impatient these days waiting for this whole process. I'm not used to being cooped up at home and not being able to work. I got my degree in December and have been getting callbacks for job interviews, but can't start work as soon as I'd like. I'm beating myself up for not applying for OPT before.

Anyway, sorry for the rant. I'm having one of those days where all I can think about is what a pain this is. It helps to share it with people who are also going through the same thing as I am. My husband is supportive but it's just hard for him to relate at times. I'll keep updating my timeline as things are moving along. Hopefully soon I'll have news to share. Good luck to everyone!

Welcome NHT. His process can be really stressful because of the log wait and the big black box between the USCIS and us. Information just trickles down to us in bits but regardless of all this we will remain hopeful and soon our cases will be adjudicated.

thanks, malealpha!

something to celebrate, indeed, unfortunately having two kids does not go well with any irregularities to your daily routine, so i guess i'll no real celebration until spring break;)

i will certainly work on my timeline, but i don't think it will be useful as reference point for others

we filed I-130 back in June 2013 when we had been married for almost 10 years (spent in europe)

i wasn't quite aware of how long it would take

not willing to be separated from my husband and kids (to put it in mild words), who started work/school here in late august, i arrived here on my tourist visa hoping that the I-130 would be approved quickly and with no major problems

oh, well...

now i know i shouldn't have waited until january to apply for AOS.

anyway, i am really glad to see that my case did not fall under someone's desk, and someone is actually working on it

slowly, but surely;)

speed up, uscis! we are all waiting:)

June 2013 - I-130 sent from overseas

January 2014 - applied for AOS/AP/EAD

March 2014 EAD/AP and I-130 approved

May 2014 - AOS approved

Hey NHT, nice to meet you (well figuratively speaking of course!) Fantastic news that you are already getting calls regarding employment opportunities, that sounds comforting to hear, even when you need that EAD!! It won't be too much longer :) Good luck!
