something to add to that:

if you got married under a K1 Visa and changed your name within that marriage, then you will only be able to get your SSN under the new name,

once you received the EAD, because as of now you are in the system with your maiden name.

So the Social Security Office can only give you the SSN under your maiden name, I decieded that I will wait till I get my EAD,

to not make things more complicated.

good luck everyone

something to add to that as well:

you can actually have the name on your SSN changed to your married name as long as you can show the marriage certificate. i did that so now they mailed me the new SS card with my married name on it and took back the one with my maiden name for shredding. you cant have two SSNs:) this is good so that once your EAD comes up, you are good to go to apply for jobs:)

really? that sucks! are u sure you had your certified copy of the marriage cert? coz they dont accept photocopies or souvenir copies of it.

oh well, look on the bright side, you are already here with your loved one...so a few more weeks to go and you would be flashing that EAD soon:)

yup, even with a certified copy and the original, the person did not care ... and just referred to homeland security ...

so I figured, I rather wait.

Yes hopefully that EAD will come in soon.

Hey guys! Good news about the progress for you smile.png definitely a good thing they are moving forward for certain cases.

I spoke to USCIS about my case and he said NYC waiting time for I-485 175 days!!!!! I really hope he's wrong....he also said currently my local office is working on July 2013 apps...!!!

I better get comfortable, this is gonna be a while for me sad.png

Hey topoftherock2013, even though we hear these things, it may not take the time we expect in the end, so keep your hopes high - there is no harm in that because I truly believe that what we focus on is what happens. I seem to think that once we get that precious EAD/AP the wait on the GC will have less importance. We'll all make it and everything will come together for good :) I've said it once and I'll say it again - that's my story and I am sticking to it...lol

I don't believe I have said thank you for starting this thread either. Thanks very much for getting the ball rolling here, I am grateful to you :)

Hi we're January filers too and just received word that we'll have EAD within 2 weeks! YAHOO! See timeline for details but it seems that asking for intervention from congresswoman really sped things up. I see our 485 status is Testing/Interview now so thinking we'll see some mail with an interview date soon?! Very surprised things have moved this fast! Good luck to all others as well..!

This is awesome Jennnmo, congratulations! All the very best to you :)

Hi - i thought I join this group as well. I am also a January AOS filer. Got my biometrics appointment letter yesterday and walked in successfully today (Port Chester NY). Hope things process fast smile.png I can't wait to work!!!

Hi izzzibizzzi :) Congrats on the bio being out of the way. Roll on EAD :) All the very best to you too :)

hello all,

i requested expedite EAD earlier today

and now i am all freaked out if i gave them the right reason for doing so. well, i hope that if i didn't the worst that can happen will be "sorry, woman, but no, you wait as long as you should to get your papers."

let's see. sigh.

Hey Jannapa - oh no, don't freak out!! Everything will work out how it is supposed to be and before you know it your EAD will be here :). I am crossing my fingers for you. Good luck!

Hello Everyone!

Good day!

It seems like USCIS Case Status page is now up and running, then checked my status and a mail has been sent for my interview appointment letter on the 26th of March. It was sent on February 23.

Nevertheless, I still need my EAD card so I can woooork and get an SSN! sleepy.gifClockWatch2.gif

Hey me-myself-and- I...:) Oh wow, an interview letter!!! This is awesome, I am elated for you. Congratulations. Good luck :)

Hey Everyone,

I have my biometrics appt for my husband tomorrow. Can anyone help on what i should bring to the appointment? And has anyone in this group gone through biometrics in NYC?

Hey OurDestiny, I hope the bio went smoothly for your husband today :)

Hi MaleAlpha, good work on the cooking (and your AOS progress of course!) Would love to be the fly on the wall during the taste testing, our flies would be laughing a lot.....I throw out less and less as time goes by...lol...lol

Hi Wurstbrot_Royal - it is really wonderful to hear that things are moving along for you. Sorry to hear about the job falling through, though I am sure that more opportunities will arise for you and you will have them coming in droves :)

Hi Xover - fantastic news regarding your job offer, I am really happy for you :) yay. All the best with that expedite!

Good luck to us all, I say!

Hey,

Just to let you know you can still get your SSN without the EAD card (to speed things up :-) )

All you need is your K1 visa in your passport and print off the I-94. I did mine yesterday. The lady just told me that the SSN card would state that you need work authorization to work. Took about ten minutes to apply and can take up to two weeks in the post :-)

Hi John&Britt :) I wanted to add to your advice in that you can apply for the SSN (on a K-1 visa regardless of marital status ie I got mine before I was married) so long as your I-94 has a minimum of 14 days validity remaining on it. Outside of that validity means you will have to wait for the EAD to come to apply for it.

hi guys! glad to hear everyone is moving along faster than we all hoped. as for the EAD expedite request, how does one do that? and what are the valid/acceptable reasons to ask for it? thanks in advance:) Have a nice week everyone!

Hey JBForever :) Here is a post regarding how to expedite an EAD. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/453753-how-to-request-to-expedite-your-ead-based-on-a-job-offer/

If I sent copy of turbo tax refunds and 6 months of paystubs do you thin that would be enough?

Hi mblessed2004. Try not to freak out too much, we were all the same when we sent our information out in the beginning, if that helps you...lol Now to your question. I am fairly certain USCIS will need a copy of the W2 from your sponsor as they will need that information to match against your tax refunds if you didn't send the IRS transcripts. The paystubs would certainly help support your application regarding current income but they aren't the same as the official W2 and/or transcripts.

If and I say, IF you receive an RFE just act quickly on it. I had one for not providing the USC birth certificate and as soon as I got the RFE I sent it back the same day - so you shouldn't lose much time at all if you gather the possible things they might request in light of the information you think might be missing.

I have included a link to the official instructions per the I-864 - go to Part 6, Item 7 for the official requirement: http://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/files/form/i-864instr.pdf

Good luck :)

Hello i have a question DID u receive a RFE? cause of your taxes? I only sent my husbands copies of what we file on turbo tax.. and 6 months of pay stubs.. do you think that was sufficient? They received my package today, i am really freaking out

Hi

No rfe yet. Fingers crossed I don't get one. I just did biometrics on the 18th of this months so waiting for something to continue moving. If I don't get a rfe at a later date yours should be ok since we more or less sent the same stuff tax wise. Let us know how it goes.

Hey Nurseling!

OM gosh, I have been doing the same, just in the vain hope that maybe the website isn't updated and suddenly I will receive my EAD/AP....looks like we are both as mad as each other or at least way in front of the line to be so...lol....but at least you got something, which is pretty neat and I am pleased for you. No RFE either see, so far so good :)

As always there are bright sides and the fact that at the end of the week it will be March (well on Saturday it will be) and that puts many of us halfway through the EAD process which s FABULOUS!

I am now working hard on finding a car so I can learn to drive the thing (can't drive hubby's truck, I am really short....lol) Also working on my CV.

Hope your job hunting is keeping you out of trouble too....but knowing you already as I do, I suspect you will leave a trail of mischievous laughter wherever you may tread....lol

Have a great week and may the postman bring us our dreams...lol
