all worked out with the early walk in, very kind people, took 30-45min all in all.

just one thing: if you changed your name because of your marriage and you do not have an american ID with the new name yet, like me rolleyes.gif ,

then bring a marriage certificate with you! I didn't bring mine and that made things a little complicated and I had to wait longer.

so now the wait ClockWatch2.gif continues ...

They didn't bother us at all with the name change. I brought the marriage certificate just in case, but they never asked for it and never mentioned the name not matching at all. In the form that they gave to fill out, it did ask for any other names used (including maiden name). It probably depends on the center and how diligent the workers there are in checking things.

Hi everyone! i just want to ask and hopefully i could get an answers from here to my questions..smile.png

first of all, i got here in U.S. last december 11 2013 and we got married dec. 26, 2013.. but we havent filed a change of status yet and its already feb. 6, 2014 now...i still have to get medical coz i need 2 more vaccination to be perform by a private doctor. My husband already found a private doctor to the vaccinations but scheduled on march 3, 2014..gosh! its almost the time of my visa expiration and it s freaking me out! because what i believe if i am correct, that i need to get medical before i can file for the adjustment of status??? not sure !!! is it possible that i will be deported because i filed almost the date of expiration of my visa? or it is ok just as long as i filed it within 90 days and that we already got married? please help me...i need some info...

Thank you so much! your answers will be much appreciated!

Why do you have to get the vaccines get done by a doctor? Try to get them done in a pharmacy like CVS or Walgreens and take all the evidence to a doctor just to have him fill out the proper vaccination sheet/confirmation. Call around for the certified doctors and ask what the vaccination sheet will cost with them. That should be faster, cheaper and easier.

Hi Alijora. From your question, I could infer that your visa type was a K-1. The 90 day condition has to do with when you get married. Filing for the adjustment can be done at any time after that even 6 months after the expiration of the visa BUT you need to get married within the 90 days, else the visa expires. It seems you have already married and did so within the 90 days, so for now you are good regarding the visa. So just get your medical done and file for your adjustment of status anytime you are ready. I hope you are aware though that the medical examination has to be done by a civil surgeon designated by the USCIS. So just ensure that the private doctor is a designated one. I don't know why your wait time for the medical exam is in March though, you might want to check with some other civil surgeons in your area to see if they could schedule an appointment for you this month (probably next week). Also while you wait to do the medical exam, you could start reading and filling the forms. Good luck!

Hi MaleAlpha! Thank you so much for your answers...really helped me a lot...yes my visa is K1 and already got married within 90 days tho....

i appreciate your answers much! iim loving this site now!! will file soon after the medical...i need to ask my husband tho if the surgeon he made an appointment with is designated with USCIS....

thank you again!!!

God Bless US ALL!!!

Hi all,

Quick update.

I ended up going for in for an early Biom appt as I was heading that way for lunch anyway. No one was there, it took a whole 5 mins for the entire thing (form filling, fingerprints and photo) I went in at 11.30am thinking it was a long shot I'll get seen but had no issues at all. They didn't ask to see my marriage certificate, despite name change and only looked at my passport and appt letter.

I went to the Varick Street branch in Manhattan (which is my nearest one)

I'm not in too much of a rush for the EAD or GC, as I'm studying so I have that to keep me busy but I do need the AP.

Have a good weekend all !

wow, you all you've been such prolific writers that i must give up on updating - although what i do brings no money home, i can still keep myself pretty busy:)

anyway, i sent the response to RFE on MOnday, it was delivered on Tuesday morning.

i got an e-mail notification today during the day to let me know that the letter got there and nbc are going to review my response

so, waiting again.

well, biometrics on thursday, and then i will try to expedite the process - let's hope it will work

living off one salary is a bit more than i can take, especially after long years of comfortable income from two breadwinners in the family:/

i'll let you know how that unfolds

June 2013 - I-130 sent from overseas

January 2014 - applied for AOS/AP/EAD

March 2014 EAD/AP and I-130 approved

May 2014 - AOS approved

That's great news topoftherock2013 re your biometrics, what perfect timing smile.png

Jannapa, Great news re your RFE being received by USCIS,a relief to be sure. I understand what you are saying re only having one income stream and I hope things move along really quickly for you and indeed us all...it would be great to have that stress gone. yes.gif

My update is that I received a text/email from USCIS notifying that they received my RFE this morning. good.gif The update was also reflected on the website which I am incredibly grateful for.

Have a great weekend all...take care and be safe.

January 2014 filer here as well.

Would like to ask how long USCIS got your application from the Chicago lockbox. Since from our USPS tracking it still says available for pick-up dated last 01 February 2014. Are they closed because of the weather?

Thank you.

Hi CJC. That's good to know that they got your RFE response and updated their site accordingly. My status online still says the same thing with the same last updated dates so I'm still waiting lol.

Kenj, they are still open. There are some delays due to the weather but they work. USPS just like the USCIS is not very reliable when it comes to updating their systems so your application might have been received but hasn't yet been fed into their online system. You probably should wait till maybe Monday and call USPS to enquire. I'm pretty sure you will receive case receipt updates by next week.

Hi Jenneth....When I filled out my AP form I left the dates blank (after researching on VJ), MaleAlpha's suggestion of putting estimated dates down would be fine also. I just put the reason for applying for AP was that I needed to be able to leave the country as soon as I was able to in the case of a family emergency and I specifically mentioned my Dad. No RFE on that form (well so far) and I have already received an RFE on another matter.

Hi JB....hey there! Wow, all over the version of a form. Well at least that was in an easy one to remedy. Sorry that happened but good it is over and done with....yay :)

Hiya Nurseling....holy cow, were you burning the midnight oil or what...lol.. I have learned about this phenomena re the extreme couponing and the in-laws have been really helpful about it. I never figured me for a coupon cutting person but one can literally save $100's, so totally worth it.......they call this the land of the free, maybe that's what they meant and Gamble and Proctor coined the phrase......lol

I am so happy to hear that you received your trio of NOA1's from USCIS, your biometrics shouldn't be too far away now...:)

Good luck with organising the move. I seriously hope that you don't end up anywhere roachy....ewww.....I lived in the Northern Territory for a spell and those roaches were everywhere. My second language became screaming as they always made a bee-line for my head.....aarrghh. The post traumatic terror I feel to this day when a leaf falls on me really warrants some sort of counseling....lol...hhmmm *happy thoughts, happy thoughts..

I am gonna make a cake and eat my feelings...lol. Have a great day and weekend!

Hey CJC

God moving is hard work can't wait till it's over.

Managed to whack out 5 job applications these last couple of days. They do ask some ####### on the application forms. Anyway I know my place so I did tell them what they wanted to hear (### ### kiss kiss) I am an in need of a job alien. So I had no choice. Of course I did wash my mouth out with soap and water after making the application. May have to use detergent if they call me in for a interview god knows what a load of kaka I have to tell them at the interview. My husbands concerned I won't be able to hold my tongue lol. Zippy is my middle name my mouth will be zipped up will only speak when spoken too lol.

Yes the extreme coupon thing is a great way to save money am going to start buying the Sunday news paper or alternatively I could act like am a hobo and go rummaging through people's trash lol. Would you believe those coupon ladies do that. And here we were thinking we were the only desperate people in this world. I will get my marigold out if am going trash hunting for old newspapers lol.

Yes been burning the midnight oil all this week packing and applying for jobs. Thank god it's weekend.

Hey no more weight loss since I stopped the Senna lol.

So I just said to myself what the heck let me have some real food, I ended up eating spaghetti yum yum. Hmm will avoid the scales like the bubonic plague tomorrow. Don't want to have a spontaneous thrombus induced by the weight the spaghetti put on my hips lol. Now why the heck was I not born with skinny genes so i can fit into my skinny jeans.

Hope your having a great weekend. Enjoy your cake therapy.:)

Hello Everyone,

Glad to see others in the same journey (fellow January filer here).

I checked the status of my case online last week and it mentions that on Feb 3, 2014, a RFE was mailed out to me. I have been reading the various requests that members have received, so I am hoping it relatively straight forward. I still have not received the hard copy of the RFE however. How long did it generally take for everyone to receive their hard copy RFE letters?

Also, is there a difference between a request for "initial evidence", as opposed to any other evidence?

Thank you for responses in advance.

Hi xover. You're welcome aboard :-). USCIS correspondence tends to take sometime to get to the recipient from experience. I'm pretty sure you might receive it between today and Wednesday looking at the issued date. Also request for initial evidence is when some evidence that was supposed to have been part of the original package was excluded. An example is forgetting to include proof of a current individual income or a birth certificate or a federal tax return form. Request for additional evidence is when USCIS decides they need extra proof asides what has been initially provided by the applicant of something such as more proof of the existence of a relationship or proof that the petitioner and their spouse live in a common residence.
