K1 Visa Interview Didn't Keep Passport Photos

My fiance had her interview today in Lima (I wasn't able to attend with her unfortunately) and she was approved! :) However, she told me that at the interview, one of the first ladies that she talked to asked her for her for the passport sized photos she brought and then handed them back to her. In the end, they didn't keep any. Has this happened to anyone else? Do they scan it right there or something into her file? Should we email the embassy to ask?

Yes they kept her passport. They told her to register on the website for delivery to the DHL office closest to her and she told them that she already registered there.

I'm going to send this email to the IV inquiry email address for the Lima embassy. What do you think?:

...email header contains our names, contact info, etc. (as detailed on embassy website for inquiries)

Hello,
My name is Ken and I am the petitioner for the above application for my fiancee. My fiancee had her interview there earlier today (January 6, 2014) and was approved. However, she realized after the interview that the passport sized photos that she brought with her to the interview were returned to her. I am sending this email because we wanted to be sure that this was correct and that the Lima embassy doesn't need the originals.
Sincerely,
....

Did she have a separate ASC appointment to take a photo and do her fingerprints? They most likely will use the photo from that, or they scanned the passport photos to use digitally. I do not think you need to worry.

The e-mail you are going to send looks fine. They are very picky about pictures but that maynot be the Case. The FACT they took her Passport and stated an Approval was your Lucky Day. Do send that e-mail; Congrats I think it will be alright

No she did not have a separate appointment, she said the same person that asked her for the pictures today took her fingerprints right there but just handed the photos back to her after.

So I should send the email just to be sure right?

Sure, send it and see what they say.

I have no clue why they ask for so many passport photos throughout this process. They never use them all.

My thoughts on this are that if her picture was suitable in her DS-260 application, they'll just use that because it's on the system.

I say this because the same thing happened me with a J1 visa - the hard photos were just in case the digital version wasn't suitable and they didn't need to use them.

Thanks for the encouragement! Yes it was the DS-160 photo. See the embassy's reply below to my email. Hopefully this post will help anyone else that has the same happen.

Mr. *******:

Thank you for your mail. We have the photos in the system in the electronic form DS-160, we do not need extra photos.

Sincerely,

Immigrant Visa Unit
