Seattle to win. No.1 Defence beats No.1 Offence (on the few occasions they meet in the Super Bowl) 4 times out of 5. wink.png

Those kind of statistics are due to even out over time. Wasn't too long ago somebody mentioned Brady's overwhelming record against Manning. That's a little closer now.

The team that makes the fewest mistakes/turnovers will win. Based on the regular season, that seems to give the Seahawks the edge. If both teams get an even number of possesions, I like the Broncos. Start giving Seattle extra possessions and the Lombardi trophy is going to Seattle.

This time around, the Brady vs Manning comparison was more a hope than a likelihood. The Patriots were a sadly depleted side, facing a full strength Broncos team, so it was always more likely that Manning would make it to February still playing. Besides, I predicted that Brady wouldn't make another Super Bowl at the end of last season and was a little surprised the got as far as they did.

The difference between that and the offence vs Defence is that comparing the two is not an apples to apples comparison. In a game, a drive that starts on the 20 yard line can take 10 or more successful plays to make into the end zone, with maybe as many more unsuccessful plays sprinkled in for good measure. The Offence has to be successful, or without error, on every play to succeed. The Defence only needs one take away on one drive, all else being equal, to unbalance the scoring cycle. Even without a turnover, a Defence has more chances to succeed on any given drive than an Offence.

Now, Peyton Manning may just have a perfect game. My contention is that he will need to do better than Russell Wilson just to have a chance to win.

Don't interrupt me when I'm talking to myself

Depleted Patriots vs full strength Broncos? That's a joke. The Broncos have 5 defensive starters on IR and also their pro bowl left tackle. Don't buy into the east coast media hype all the time. Everyone has injuries.

The Broncos have punted once in 2 playoff games so far. I'm sure that's going to change, but that means every other drive ended in points (except that turnover at the end of the 1st half). So all things are not equal. Like I said, I like the matchup for Seattle on many levels, but the Broncos are obviously capable of putting points on the board. If they do get ahead, Seattle will have a hard time keeping up unless there offense picks it up a notch.

Then you are about to get real sad very soon. cray5ol.gif

Nobody gave the Patriots a chance in their first SB win over the Rams. St. Louis had a record setting offense that year but it was the Patriots D that let them win the game. I don't think Seattle will win either, but I will be rooting for them and hope to see Manning take a few hard hits and get picked off a few times.

Since the Chinese New Year is the year of the horse, and Denver's logo has a horse then Broncos have to win :). It's not the year of the bird :)
