Letter of Intent

Hello everyone,

I've been searching around on VJ for information about how to construct a "Letter of Intent." Do most people use the sample provided on VJ?

This may be a silly question, but I have to be sure; on my letter of intent, do I put my mailing address in the U.S. and on the Fiance's letter of intent do we put his mailing address? Are addresses necessary?

How can we find our filing location? Is it just the Dallas Lockbox? I will be filing this from Chicago.

Thanks so much, everyone! Happy Cambodian Independence Day!

Also, do we have to put a date on this form (we're not sure when we are going to submit all our documents, still waiting for my job to straighten out a bit)?

I never put addresses on The Letter of Intent. All these are covered in other Documents in the 129-F Petition. (addresses are found on the 325 Forms. It never would hurt to include a address on the letter of intent.) {re: I plan to marry within 90 days of entry into the US of ADDRESS but not nessesary[

A letter of Intent is flexible but requires a commitment to follow the rules of the 129-F Requirements

The Location is Dallas and no other.

It will required a date close to the filing of the 129-F. These dates are on other Forms you will submit but do put a date.

You sound new to this and I been there. It is safe to follow VJ Guides. Remember the form can be printed but the Signature in Ink is Required. No copies or scanned. ORIGINAL SIGNATURE At the signature is where I would date it. Feel free to ask anything here.

Good Luck

Did you submit a summary of the history of your relationship in the letter of intent or on the I-129f when asked to "describe the circumstances under which you met?"

I have visited my fiance twice in Cambodia since we got engaged; I was trying to figure out where to offer details as to what we did together during these visits. Any thoughts?

The Letters of Intent from each party do not require such information of how you met. Pictures together is where I would put a Header Letter decribing in short your relationship and how you met. Included, we are in love and wish to Marry. The 129-F is a brief form for the initial Filing. However, it must be correct to avoid a RFE. I tried to make Rocket Science of this when starting the process.

Yes, most people use the example letter of intent here on VJ. No addresses are needed on them though.

These samples work perfectly >

My suggestion is do your own one !!! Just be yourself .....

Nope to both. Use the examples cited by Jay-Kay above.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

You can copy the example forms word for word (just replace the appropriate names) and sign and date it. This is all that is needed. All they want to see is your signed affirmation to marry...they don't care about details of your relationship.

The letter can be emailed to your fiance so it can be printed, but it MUST be mailed back to you with an original signature.

That's all we did, both times (letters are needed for the 129f petition and then again updated for the interview.).

You don't get extra credit for unneeded fluff.
