X-ray for medical exam and pregnancy (split topic)

HI All,

Just checked in. Im the beneficiary of IR1/CR1 and Im 16 weeks pregnant. Our application is at the NVC stage where I am submitting my civil documents for the interview. I am in a dilemma BETWEEN undergoing a Chest x-ray as part of the medical examination that might harm my unborn child AND not doing the chest x-ray which might in turn delay the issuance of the green card. The whole process started since March 2013 and husband and I have merely spent 2 weeks together since. It is unbearable to think that if my visa gets delayed and I will have to give birth abroad and the CRBA to be processed afterwards. I do not know when my husband and I will be reunited.

I would love to get some opinions from you or those who had a similar experience.

Many thanks!!

I wonder of the outcomes of their babies for those pregnant ladies who underwent chest x-ray. Im in the same situation. I will probably in my 20+ weeks when i do my medical and Im fighting within, if i should take the risk of having the chest x-ray done or delay my visa process. Im in such a dilemma! Help!

As this thread is older you may not get a reply from the OP. But from personal experience I have had a couple x-rays with a few times in different pregnancies. My kids all turned out fine. My Doctor actually said I would get more radiation from my microwave then an x-ray. Not sure how accurate that comparison is but he did ease my mind.

Don`t do a chest x ray while you are pregnant. It is not recommended and although they will cover your belly it is a risk. A visa is not worth having an ill baby. You should talk to a few doctors - maybe a chest x ray is possible later during your pregnancy.
