French w/Green Card traveling to France...What passport???

Hi Everyone,

Ok, here's my situation, I hope someone can shed some light on this:

- I'm French, moved legally in Minnesota in 2005 after getting married to an American woman (which is a Citizen), went through all the DCF process for a green card, removed the conditional status in 2008 and now have a permanent resident card (I-551).

- In 2004, for my first trip in the US, I had a French passport made, which expires in May 2014.

- So far, traveling back to France to visit my family there, i was using my French passport to get out of the US and enter Europe, and my Permanent resident card to get out of Europe and enter back in the US.

- My sister is getting married in August 2014 in France, and my French passport will be expired, and I am currently in Minnesota, which is where I live with my wife.

So...I am really wondering how do I do this? I can't afford the fees to become a citizen yet....

Can I get a passport or any document made in the US to travel out and back in as a permanent resident that will let me enter Europe and travel back for sure??

I know you have to be physically present to get a new passport made or renewed in France (and I'm guessing in any countries!) so there is no way I can have somebody else do one for me over there (obviously!)...I know I may sound dumb, but I am really confused and dont know what to do here...and I can't miss my baby sister's wedding...Help!!

Thank you.

My husband will be in a similar predicament next year. I was told that we could visit the Embassy/Consulate for his country in our area and they could renew his passport. Try the French Embassy/Consulate in your area- maybe they can help.

Please read the link Hypnos posted and you will see steps you need to take to go to the French Consulate in Washington D.C to renew your French passport.

As you have been doing you need your French passport to visit France (and the. E.U) while your Green card is valid to allow you go back to your home/residence to the US. By presenting it alongside with your valid unexpired French passport until you file for Naturalization and get approved to become a USC.

Good luck
