Hi, I just received my EAD (Employment Authoriaztion Document) Card through the mail valid for one year and I need to ask:

Can I apply for work or do I have to get a Social Security Number first?

Luckily, I was able to get a Driver License with the EAD but, I wonder if it would get me a job!

Thanks for advising

Regards to all

study the I-9 requirements.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Go to your Social security office and get a social security number. It could be readily available or you may have to wait 10 days.It all depends if your info was quickly updated in their system. nevertheless, when you go to apply and they tell you they have to verify!!! wait 4 or 5 days and go back, if they state all is well just ask them for the number, they will write it down, then you wait for the actual card

You can apply for jobs as much as you like, whenever you like. You won't need the number until the day you actually start work. That is when you will need to fill out the I-9 form. But you should apply now so you have it on hand when you do start work.

You can technically work, however most employers will require you to have a SS number, especially if they process their payroll through any kind of payroll company.

It's easy to get one, there's no reason not to.
