Hey guys,

Might have some hope for a co-sponsor after all.

Just wondering, to save time and out of convenience, if my co-sponsor can fill out and sign the I-864, scan it into a pdf file, and email it to me as an attachment for me to print out? or does it have to be the original sent in the mail because of the signature?

In addition, would it be fine for them to scan all their tax transcripts, birth certificate, w2s, employee letter, and paystubs and then email them to me as a pdf attachment?

I figured the second one may be fine but I wasn't sure about the first due to the authenticity of the signature.

Thanks!

Hi,

if I were in your position, I would make that person send me by snail mail only the page of the 864 that requires the signature (signed, obviously, hehe), and then you fill the rest of the 864 with the computer. I would not risk an RFE if they considered the printed 864 to be a copy rather than an original.

Regarding the rest of the stuff, all of those can be copies so it is perfectly fine to just print them.

Correct me if I am wrong....for Canada the I-864 is submitted electronically once you optin. If the co-sponsor scans and sends you the PDF including the original signature, that is fine to send in for the electronic processing. You would just want to have the original signature page mailed to in time to be able to take it to the interview in order to show that you have the originals of all the scanned documents.

I guess what I am suggesting is that if the co-sponsor is sending you a PDF, why would you need to print it out and scan it again?

Once the AOS fee appears as PAID, print out the ‘Document Cover Sheet’ available at the payment portal (screenshot of AOS receipt page here [31]. Add this to the beginning of the PDF package. This must be the first page in the document. The second page is the cover letter you wrote and then the forms in the same order as listed on your cover letter.

Once your forms are all ready, you email the package to: NVCElectronic@state.gov
