I would like some information on something please.

So in 2005 my aunt filled an application for my father and the application got approved on november 4th 2009 and was sent to the department of state for visa processing. Since then we haven't heard anything back yet. How long does the processing usually take ? And is there an email where i could ask about the status of the application ?

are you sure it was sent to NVC and not NRC ?

For clarity, call the NVC office and inquire for casefile status.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

"Post Decision Activity
On November 4, 2009, we shipped this approved or re-affirmed case to the Department of State for visa processing."
This is what it says when i check the status on https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/Dashboard/CaseStatus.do
I really don't know how these things work. The legal stuff and the processing.

Well, we have guides you can read, here.

However, when I write the word 'call', I really mean, 'Use a Telephone, call into NVC, and inquire for casefile status via telephone'.

Usually casefiles are sent out to NRC for storage, waiting until the priority date becomes current, then shipped out to NVC for visa application doc intake, for this exact type of visa.

Seriously, use a telephone.

If you're only picking this stuff up today, don't sweat, we've a guide you can read for backgrounder info and there's a subforum for your visa type.

Your aunt applied for your father? That sounds like he is her brother. If that is the case, and she is a US citizen, that would put the application in F4 category. If so, then the wait time is usually over 10 years. The January visa bulletin shows that for F4 they are only up to priority date October 2001 for most countries, November 1996 for Mexico, and July 1990 for Philippines. Getting approved by USCIS is only a preliminary step, after going to NVC you have to wait for the priority to become current.
