I've only just found this part of the forums. Wow.

Anyway, I'm a Kiwi and will be moving to the USA with my husband.

And I also got a police clearance checklist, which took about 55 days to get processed from when I sent it to them. Longest 55 days of my life, but totally worth it when I got the case complete letter!

It has been an interesting year so far! All our documents are with the NVC as of last week, so hopefully in 60 days or so we will have some progress. The I130 languished in Nebraska for 4 months and 2 weeks, was transferred to California and we were confirmed with 2 weeks, frustrating to know that they can do things quickly when they want to.

The worst thing was getting an email confirming receipt of our documents, and then, three hours later, receiving an email with a checklist saying that we had not submitted several documents including birth cert, passport photo copy or AOS. Essentially the checklist was a list of everything we had submitted. After 45 waiting on the form they said that actually our package had not been opened, and the email was erroneous! Unbelievable, or perhaps not!

Sadly, getting the checklist like that is quite common. Frustrating, but common! I would have preferred that though. I waited the 60 days for my case to be processed at NVC, only to get a checklist for a police certificate for which I had to wait another 60 days for it to process!

Already here - adjusting status, had one package returned asking for two forms that were included with original package, and a RFE asking for information included with original package, both of which have delayed my EAD/AP. Assuming that these are all pretty common.

Another one who is already in the US, in Texas. Arrived on K1 and am now awaiting adjustment of status. We have been selected as a potential interview waiver case for my I-485, which sounded great at first but it's just delayed the whole process.... we were supposed to have heard back by December 2014 but they're still catching up.

Happy to help with any questions on the K1 process other Kiwis may have, chat about life in the USA etc. My main advice is to always use a cover letter that details what your package includes (helpful for you to check off you haven't missed anything as well), make sure you always have a complete copy of what you've mailed (things get lost, easily) and be prepared to be VERY patient! :)
