Hello Everyone,

And best wishes for 2020 !

Does anyone know what ROC means (removal of conditions)?

Does it have any link with my husband living in the US and me being in France, doing the whole NVC process?

Thank you very much and take care,

Alix

Hey ALix,

ROC = removal of conditions

How does it work?

Well, if you are married less then 2 years at the time of entering the US with your visa - you will have conditional green card (CR1) - valid for 2 years. 6 months before your GC expires you will have to apply for ROC - you will need to prove you are still married, living together etc. in order to obtain permanent GC (10 years).

On the other hand, if at the time you enter the US you are married more then 2 years, you will immediatly be granted IR1 visa - with 10y validity of GC

In my case, we got married on Feb 13th 2018. My interview in on Jan 22nd 2020. They will give me CR1 (conditional visa).

But I will be entering US AFTER Feb 13th 2020. Therefore, I will at the POE (point of entry), specifiy that to the officer and show him/her my marriage certificate. They will autaomatically change my visa type and grant me 10 years GC.

Hope it is clear :)

Good morning everyone.

I need the help of those who already received their passports back with the little paper guide on “how to pay for your green card...”

In this guide, there is a sheet about Social Security Number, telling you that if you applied for a SSN it will arrive, that if you didn’t apply, here’s how to do...It’s basically two paragraphs, one in French and one in English with general information.

I have been in the USA for about two weeks and I have a job. They ask me for this “sheet” to be sure that I will receive a SSN card. Anyone know how I can find it online? Or can anyone scan it for me and forward it to me? I’m so nervous! I received this sheet when I was in France and I called my mom to search for it but she can’t find it!

Guys, I’m so sorry if I confused you!

Have a wonderful day!!!

Hi Everyone !

Hope you are all well.

I wanted to see where my French couple fellows were at and who is still on this forum.

I am waiting for NVC to create my case number, so still at the beginning of the process. I know Mr&MrsT are waiting to be DQ (anyday now).

What about the other French US Couples?

Take care,

Alix

We "should" (we already got into the habit of using conditional mode 😋) be receiving our case number next week.

Hi fellow French members ,

ok , I am.waiting ( forever lol ) to be reviewed by NVC for the 2nd time .

as my esta is blocked since august 2018 and they refused me a visitor visa as for them , in Paris I had to ask for immigrant visa ( I do the short part of the story ) we are thinking to maybe apply for a visitor visa again just to visit my husband parents for like 2 weeks .
his  dad health is not at his best and he wants to see him but he wants me to come with him .

do you think is there a possibility for me to apply for a visitor visa and being accepted ?
i am currently not working and I don’t have

« strong » ties in France as my husband is my only family since I lost my mom last year .

i don’t want to try to immigrate faster . But as the process is taking way longer that what we thought he will take first ( 18 month now) we just want to see the family and then come back and wait for thé immigrant visa to be ok .

thanks for your help 🙏

Hi Mr&MrsT,

Eventhough the officers at the borderline in the airports can really do what they want, (and unless of course, they have deep suspicions about you having comitted crime - but I don't think it is the case), you cannot be refused access to the country.

I have myself a B2 visa because I had a problem with ESTA. I remember preparing a whole bunch of infos to justify my request and the officier at the ambassy listened to my issue and the visa was delivered with no problem.

Now I don't know if going through the Green Card process prevents from petitionning for other type of visa.

Arguing the fact that the Green Card journey is taking a long time (you won't have any problem to show proof of that, right? ;-)) and that your husband's father is not doing well is - I think - enough to show that you are in an honest process.

And in any case, what do you have to lose? I would definitely do it. Unless they have change the way of doing it, you 1) take an appointment at the Embassy 2) you bring all the papers necessary (we can discuss that later if you want). (maybe now, you download... I don't know). It is worth giving a try.

Having a tourist visa (B2) from the Embassy should not be a problem to my opinion. But it doesn't mean the officers at the border will let you enter without asking you more questions than the usual "how long are you here for" "why are you visiting the US" and they will want to see your return ticket. But they will let you in and you will be able to see your father in law.

Take care super MrsT

Hi @Alix64

thank you for your answers and the informations 😀

i thought they can deny entry to the country . Good to know that they cannot .

I have nothing to hide and if we go that route I will take ALL my paperwork’s with me showing that my process is taking longer than expected and that we just want to visit the family especially my husband and then coming back home for the rest of the process .

then even if I don’t have strong ties in France  i still have my car , bills to pay , we have a Rental contract for the apartment .

then I don’t know too if being on a green card process will allow to ask for a visitor visa .
we try to reach USCIS to have the info but instead the vocal mail no way to talk to someone 🤷‍♀️

i am tired lol

thank you again wonderful Alix 😊
