Everything to make us paranoid (me at least).

What if, you get a 3month or less old French birth certificate, and you submit it with a translation that is older (because based on a former version) do you think, they could argue about the differences i.e.  the date +  the name of the French officer who signed the document?

You don’t need the translation for French documents

Congratulations :D

We got an interview letter one week after getting DQed but 2/3 weeks does seem pretty accurate.

THIS ^ is making me seriously consider switching consulates... 😣

I'm a French citizen living in Canada. The consulate here has a big backlog of about 4-5 months from DQ to Interview. They have been catching up and I just got DQ yesterday December 9th. It's likely I'll have my interview in March-April.

My spouse (the USC) and I are planning a trip in March to go see my family in France. I have a feeling this is when they're going to give me my interview date, either during the trip or right before and I won't have my passport... I'm debating (for about the 4th time since starting the process haha) whether or not I should try to have the interview moved over to France...

My spouse doesn't have that much flexibility in vacation dates, the 2 weeks in March are blocked but if we miss that window we won't be able to go or at least not together. Of course we haven't booked the tickets yet, as we don't know 1) where I'll be by then 2) if we'll be able to go. So by the time we know more we might end up paying crazy price for our tickets.

Is a few weeks the norm to get an interview date at the Paris Consulate? :) Any input will be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Alix ,

You don’t have to do translations as the documents  are in the language of the country you are applying .

i didn’t sent any translation to NVC too for my French documents and no problem .

i had this info from K-Kwette few months ago when I was ready to pay again for translation .

For the US Embassy in Paris, I can understand but Wow NVC too?!  that is quite some news (eventhough I already had everything translated)... how English speaking agents at NVC could understand my divorce certificate, my birth certificate, my marriage certificate if they are all in Frenchblabla... I'm quite confused.

Hey Audrey,

The key part of the text is:

"or in the official language of the country in which you are applying for a visa"

"All documents not written in English, or in the official language of the country in which you are applying for a visa, must be accompanied by certified translations. The translation must include a statement signed by the translator stating that:

  • The translation is accurate, and
  • The translator is competent to translate."

At NVC, They have specific things they are looking for : on your PC they look for a horizontal bar, on your divorce decree for « tribunal de grande instance », stamp and names etc...

Hello fellow French!

As I got DQ on Nov 22nd I am expecting IL any day now and the actual interview in January.

I will be traveling for Christmas period for 3 weeks in Europe so I decided to do the medical before the IL.

First I did X-rays and blood and urine test at the labs indicated by the doctor. Today I had medical appointment.

I found out that now for most immigrant visas it is E-Medical which means you have to do blood/urine and X-ray AFTER the medical. Luckily for me my case wasn’t selected for this program and I was able to use the results I had.

Dr Jolly is nice and good professional, she speaks to you in English  but if you don’t know some words and say them in French she understands perfectly.

Just wanted to share the experience and I recommend you to :

- take the appointment with the doctor and ask them if you are eligible for e medical before doing tests! Otherwise you might pay twice the same thing!

I believe you have to have current residence in the country in order to be able to switch medical appointment place...but I am not sure.

I don’t think I would take a risk...

I'm pretty sure it's either citizenship or residence 😕 either way, they would simply tell me no when I ask for the transfer, no?

Do you mean you would not take the risk because of my possibly wrong expectations regarding the dates, or because of the fact that the transfer might no be authorized?

This is driving me crazy, we just can't plan anything 😒 we're almost there though!

I wouldn’t take a risk to have my interview scheduled in France and then not being there.
Remember that Paris embassy takes more then 2 weeks to send you your passport back with visa in it.
And also sometimes they ask for additional things which slows down the process and would force you to stay in Paris and wait (one lady had to go back after a month because they made a mistake taking her fingerprints, you need to have less then 3 or 6 months old BC,...)

and also if you have interview in Paris you have to do your medical in Paris as well..

Okay, I understand... That is good to know. And considering the fact that I work from home and could be on vacation in France while working for my employer here (meaning no real time constraints or deadline) would your recommendation stay the same?

I do appreciate your input and I'm not trying to be stubborn, I just want to be as strategic as possible :) Thank you.
