Forced Vaccinations and Medical Requirements for I-693

I'm concerned about the enforcement of requiring vaccinations for the I-693. I'm not an advocate for vaccinations in the first place... in my mind there is now too much evidence against them for them to be an ethical enforcement - especially in a pro active health person who is trying to get pregnant, as myself.

Does anyone know the implications of refusing to get vaccinated? Or what steps I can take to become exempt? I've done the TB skin test, which I was negative for, but I'm very apprehensive about getting any of the others, including the flu shot - which has been shown to increase chances of miscarriage and cases of still birth.

There is a time and place for taking a stand on things and refusing to comply with the vaccination requirements is simply not the thing to do if you're serious about emigrating to the USA.

Can't get into a debate about the effects of these shots, but can say, if you already have proof that you received some of these vaccinations, don't have to get them again.

But medical providers sure take advantage of this with outrageous prices on some of these requirements, when you can get the same exact vaccinations for a couple of dollars or even for free from your local county health department. Heck one doctor wanted 500 bucks for an HIV test. With two immigrants, that is a thousand bucks! Just got those done from our local county health department with a certificate from the University Wisconsin Medical school for 25 bucks each.

Bu pretyping in the heading on two I-693's and printing out neat copies so the doctor could hen scratch in the rest of it, providing all the required shot certificates and other test. And finding a USCIS approved doctor that would go along with it, got by with $800.00 for two of them, instead as much as $11,000.00 from some so called medical providers.

Doctor also commented, was the easiest I-693 he ever had to fill out, everything was there in an organized fashion. But he still made 800 bucks for less than about a half hours worth of work.

Don't know about your health insurance coverage, mine does not cover filling out an I-693, but did have to drive my girls 300 miles round trip to get it done.

Ha, already asked if I needed these tests done on myself, since I was living with these gals and in close contact with one of them. No you don't, you are already a US citizen.

for most K-1 visa holders, the I-693 is nothing more than a medical transcription plus a few more shots, and if it's more than 300 bucks per person, yer at the wrong place.

Many times, also, the admin clerk at the civil surgeon's office is poorly trained and insists on a new medical exam. These people can be retrained, but it's not pretty.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

It's all based on statistics, an extremely small percentage of people to have shot reactions, but tend to look at the overall good.

http://www.immunize.org/catg.d/p4037.pdf is just one example of this.

We had some problems, our American doctors never heard of a lifetime tuberculous vaccine that is common in Latin America. And with this shot, will not pass the skin test. So my girls needed x-rays and were put on some kind of pill, state provided for a year. Other people are allergic to this skin test.

Plus they demanded my girls have yearly x-rays, but by then were covered under our health insurance policy. Until the British came along with a far more accurate blood test for TB that seemingly took forever for the AMA to adopt. Then it was no longer a problem.

Ha, again, some forms of TB is highly contagious, since I am living with these girls, shouldn't I be tested too? No, you don't have to, you are not applying for immigration. If you want to immigrate into this country, have to do what you are told to do.

Just get your damn vaccines. There's a reason that scenes like this are a thing of the past:

My grandmother remembers the ward that specially housed those contraptions, she was a nurse once.

People can be against vaccines but to be against them means you can't get any of them based on moral or religious grounds. There is a waiver for this should the OP decide to pursue it.

What serious scientific evidence do you have of risks related to any vaccine currently on the market? Would you rather have those shots now, or get infected with rubella during your pregnancy (causes severe birth defects)? Transmit whooping cough to your newborn (potentially lethal)? People tend to forget that these diseases can cause death or irreversible damage. Being a "pro-active health person" will not protect you from tetanus or measles.

Vaccines SAVE people. You don't claim to be a paleontologist, do you? So don't claim to be an immunologist.

Should you decide to refuse the vaccines, your application would be denied. Like others said, there is a waiver if your rejection of immunization is based on sincere religious/moral beliefs. My understanding is that being "apprehensive" does not make you eligible for a waiver.

I got out of having the (expensive and unnecessary) chicken pox vaccine by having a blood test to prove my immunity. Since I'd had shingles 5 years ago, I KNEW I didn't need another shot, but I had to prove it. I just sucked it up and got the others done... most vaccines are given for a reason, and some are life-saving.
