I am trying to find a good deal on a hotel for a lengthy stay. I am going to be there 5 weeks while we have a baby. i have heard that it is possible that a Filippina will often get a better deal than a foreigner, even without trying to barter, simply because they have a 2 teired rate scheme.

Anyone have experiance with it?

My wife is not really a barterer, so I don't expect miracles.

why not rent an apartment with fully furnished already for less than 5 months. There are some apartment in Makati and Manila offer daily, weekly and monthly compare staying in a hotel for 5 months in that way you can cook your own food rather rely on the restaurant almost everyday.

good luck

Actually, I am looking into that as well, up in Tagaytay. Don't much like metro Manila. If you have any leads, let me know.

While I was on the hunt for a good hotel for my bf and his mom, I frequently encountered receptionists who asked if the room would be for me, the Filipina. Apparently, they DO have different price schemes for foreigners and locals. The classier hotels say they have "discounts" for the locals, while others.. they just say it flat out - that there're different price schemes...

Can't say that I've any hotels to recommend, but given the choice, I'd also go for a short-term renting thing.

If you're gonna stay at Tagaytay, I recommend dropping by Bag o' Beans! Personally, i loved the ambiance and the food. I also heard that they offer accommodations, but... I wouldn't know about that. We usually just hit Tagaytay during daytime, and head home for the night. I've no email address for em, but.. their number is (46) 4132724.

Good luck to you! And a belated Merry Christmas :)

Looks like I am in luck.

Her former boss has a sister with a rental in a scenic area with aircon and a swimming pool. 25,000 peso for a month- a huge savings.

The hotel was going to be 60,000 peso.

Not sure if it's still needed but incase someone would read this and is in need of some answeres...here it goes....

- Hotels in the Philippines have FOREIGN and LOCAL rates. I have been booking rooms for my mother-in-law and her business associates for so many years now, I always use my name so we can get local rates. Local rates in the hotels I book them in are 30% - 40% cheaper than Foreign rates. I hope that helped...

yeah they do have 2 different rates. I know when we checked into Cebu beach club they were giving us the "foreigner" rate.. I am half filo and half aussie and my aunt stepped in and said my mother was filo and she deserves the local rate! thankgawd for that cos we could stay a week with the peso rate compared to the USD one and that was only going to be a 1 night stay!!! its worth to try anything hahaha I agree on getting an apartment, ask the locals, again we got a apartment for dirt cheap.
