Marriage requirements in California

How long will it take to get the marriage certificate? We will only be in California two weeks before we return to Singapore.

We will goto the courthouse and get married in Rockland (near Sacramento).

I am not sure how to start the process.

Phred, it is not complicated at all. All you need is a marriage license, which is more of a formality than anything else. In most counties you can schedule both the license and the ceremony on-line. You can also opt for a confidential marriage, license, which requires no witnesses.

You may want to take a look at this link: http://www.cdph.ca.gov/certlic/birthdeathmar/pages/marriagelicenseinformation.aspx

Once you are legally married, it should be easier for your wife to obtain a tourist visa for the US, because you will become her strong tie to Singapore. If/when she decides to apply for a tourist visa, make sure she brings your documents to the interview, as evidence that you are a resident in Singapore. That will help her prove she has no reason to stay in the US, if/when you come visit.

Good luck and congrats.

Having a USC spouse makes it harder to get a tourist visa even if that spouse lives abroad according to most posts on the bboard. Getting citizenship in Singapore is really the best bet because it is a VWP country.

Are you doing the same?

Until recently I was seeking a K1 for my Burmese fiancé.

2012 09 27 First date
2013 01 01 Started cohabiting, and obtained a joint bank account
2013 07 13 Engagement
2013 10 11 Sent i129F to USCIS
2013 10 18 Received NOA1 from USCIS
2013 11 12 Received RFE notice - Almost decided to change the venue to Thailand. Sat on the RFE for about three weeks before proceeding.2013 12 20 RFE answer package received by USCIS
2013 12 23 NOA2 received from USCIS
2014 01 14 After demonstrating the hate Americans have tward the chidfree, my fiancé has no desire to visit the USA.

Going forward, I will sell off my remaining assets in the USA. I doubt I will ever return. Americans are second only to the French when it comes to rudeness.

USC?

I know that it is harder due to her lack of ties in Singapore. Once we get PR it should be easier. We will visit Thailand, Isreal, etc. that way we can also show a history of good conduct when it comes to visas.

She does want to visit her sister in Canidia. They are stricter than the USA.

US citizen.

I read that.

If I get an oportunity to mention it somehow, will make sure they know I am a Gulf War veteran. That never fails to help in just about every situtation when I need something from the goverment.

My husband volunteered for deployment to Iraq and Africa. As the wife of a veteran I thank you for your service, but at the same time I wonder why are you using it like that? I guess I am used to my man who refuses to get even a license plate that says honorably discharged veteran. But everyone is different. I get the feeling you're angry. I'm sorry you feel the way you do for whatever reason you feel it. I wish you much happiness in the future.

Thank you;

I have a lot in common with your husband. You will never see me waving a US flag. The reason is complicated, and it has everything to do with the war. All of us carry a lot of "noise" in our heads. It is hard to silence that "noise". That is why so many veterans are Buddhists.

All that being said, would I trade the expereince for someone elses life? Not in a million years. The expereince made me strong.

Being a veteran carries some "clout" in when dealting with the government. I exploit it once in a while.

Phred, I got married in Sacramento, in Fair Oaks to be specific. It took us a week to wait for our marriage certificate after we sent in the license.
