Driving through boarder with k-1 visa

Isn't it true that we have up to one year to register our vechicle in the USA once we arrive? I have been doing more research and it seems I could potentially drive through boarder with my Canadain plates and insurance and get the car imported before one year? We do have 90 days on the k-1 visa to be married or return to Canada.

Any insight?

I'm not certain on the time.....As it differs from state to state! I believe one does not have to import it right at the border, if they give you any hassles (cant find the stickers/stamps) but can get it completed at any International airport. As others in the above posts stated, I believe a few had to get an importer company to handle it.

But you def want to check into what your state says...as you could get ticketed....or if you get into an accident, you may find out ur not covered, and if an insurance company can get away without paying any $$$$$, they will find out!

However, Arizona law requires that you obtain an Arizona driver license (and vehicle registration) immediately if any one of the following applies to you:

• You work in Arizona (other than for seasonal agricultural work).
• You are registered to vote in Arizona.
• You have place children in school without paying the tuition rate of a nonresident.
• You have a business that has an office in Arizona that bases and operates vehicles in this state.
• You have obtained a state license or pay school tuition fees at the same rate as an Arizona resident.
• You have a business that operates vehicles to transport goods or passengers within Arizona.
• You have remained in Arizona for a total of seven months or more during any calendar year, regardless of your permanent residence.

I called Honda about this...I needed a letter from Honda Canada to show that there are no recalls on the vehicle. I then have to send this letter with other documents (copy of my passport, drivers licence, registration, and bill of sale) to Honda USA and they issue the compliance letter. Canadian auto manufacturers don't do this, the US ones do.

Also, you will want to check into your Canadian insurance...my company won't cover more than 60 days out of province. I had to arrange for special coverage for 6 months, since I discovered that you cannot get insurance in Florida without registering the vehicle there (and you need proof of residence for that).

I am not sure about all of these forms that were linked previously...they seem to be more for purchasing a vehicle and importing it, rather than driving my car over for immigration. Is there recent confirmation as to which forms exactly need to be completed if i have a compliance letter?
