My Medical is on Tuesday and I sent off my Notification of Applicant Readiness form on the 22/12/13 and I haven't heard back from the Embassy. Will I hear back after my medical? Also how long of a wait is it usually between your medical and your interview appointment?

What do they do in the medical exam?

Thanks in advance.

Thank you but I have booked my medical exam already and I have my paper work I just wanted to know what happens in the exam. Packet 3 states that you should book your medical now and that the embassy will contact you once your exam has been done I just wondered how long that usually took.

Oh sorry from what i read the appointment about 1 1/2 to 2hrs and here what they look for. I hope this help :-)

What to Expect at the Medical Examination

The medical examination consists of a physical examination (eyes, ears, nose, throat,

extremities, heart, lungs, abdomen, lymph nodes, skin and external genitalia) chest X-ray

and a blood test, which includes testing for venereal disease. The blood test and X-ray are

generally not required of persons under the age of 15, but they are required, under existing

United States immigration law, of all other persons. Note: Pregnant woman are required to

undergo an X-ray. You will have an opportunity to discuss this further on the day of the

appointment.

A chaperone will be offered to a female where the doctor is male, or for children.

Vaccinations: On the day of the medical examination, the physician will be required to

verify that you have met the vaccination requirement, or that it is medically inappropriate

for the you to receive one or more of the following vaccinations: Hepatitis A; Hepatitis B;

Influenza, Influenza Type B (HIB); Meningococcal, Mumps; Measles; Pertussis;

Pneumococcal; Polio, Rubella Tetanus and Diphtheria Toxoids; Varicella. NOTE: The

Varicella vaccination is unavailable in the United Kingdom.

In order to assist the health centre, and to avoid delays in the processing of your visa, you

should have your vaccination records available for review at the time of the medical

examination. Please consult with your regular health care provider to obtain a copy

of your immunization record, if one is available. If you do not have a vaccination

record, the panel physician will work with you to determine which vaccinations you may

need to meet the requirement and can provide any that you are lacking on the day of your

appointment. Please refer to the last page of this package for a chart showing the required

vaccinations and age restrictions and a breakdown of costs for each one. If the vaccination

record is not in english, please have the document translated and signed by a doctor.

There's a long standing thread here that has people reviewing their medicals in London: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/8321-london-medical-knightsbridge-doctors/

Skip forward a bit to get more recent ones.

Expect to be at the medical centre for at least an hour (waiting time and such before and between parts). The actual parts of the medical take a few minutes each (x-ray, check-up, vaccination review).

Results are couriered direct to the embassy about 4 working days after your medical, assuming no issues were found.

Hey!

I put this on another post, but here is my experience of the medical:

I went about 10 mins before my appointment time and was sat waiting for about 10 mins past the time - they give you some forms to fill in. I had to get my X-rays done first which was the easiest thing ever. They give you a thin robe to wear and ask you to take all your upper layers off (don;t worry - you're behind a screen and at no time does the person doing the X-ray see you naked). Then you stand next to this thing facing the wall where you have to rest your chin on a rest. The guy will ask you to take a deep breath in, hold it then exhale - and that's it! I ended up scrunching my shoulders when the X-ray was taken as it didn't come out clear on the picture, so make sure you relax. After that, you go and sit in another waiting room (still in the robe) and wait for the doctor. There were about 4 different ones that I saw walking around while I was there, but I got a blonde european lady. She barely smiled and wasn't the friendliest in terms of making conversation, but she was ok. She sat me down at her desk and asked questions. Can't remember all of them them, but some were about any existing conditions, if I smoke, drink or take drugs or if I ever have. Any operations etc. After that, I had to go behind the curtain near the bed and take everything else off except my panties and the robe. Then I had to sit on the bed and she came over and did the physical exam which, according to the checklist on the form I had filled in at the start, wasn't as thorough as it probably should have been. She checked eyes, ears, glands, throat, chest/respiratory. Then I had to lay down on the bed and she checked reflexes in knees, breasts, stomach and had a peek under the robe. Then I sat up and she took the blood test to check for syphilis and that was it. I got dressed and she told me to go wait in the 1st waiting room. I sat here for about 5 mins then got called through to see a nurse about my vaccinations. She gave me a sheet of what I had to get done and asked if I wanted them there (which I didn't as it's super expensive), then that was it. I paid and left.

I got my vaccinations done at my doctors surgery, so that saved a lot of money!

You won't hear back from the embassy until after the medical - expect to wait around 3-4 weeks. As I have put on many posts before, if you haven't heard anything come week 3 or 4, email and chase it up as the embassy has a habit of "losing" appointment letters!!
