Hello all. Over the past year me and my fiance Lily (from Samara, Russia) have been preparing our K-1 petition. We finally sent it out this past novemeber and it was received by the USCIS. We are currently in the "Initial Review" status and I'm wanting to do some preparations for a potential approval. (If my nerves dont get the best of me by then lol :P)

My question is simple...

What are the steps I should be taking while waiting?

Advice from people who have been down this road, or from those past this part of the process would be greatly appreciated.

Read the information and instructions from the consulate you will interview at. Read through the reviews for your consulate. Check out the Russian regional forum > http://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/98-russia-ukraine-and-belarus/

Also, the travel.state.gov site about K-1 visas is helpful for learning what is required as well > http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_2994.html

There's not a whole lot you need to do or can do other than wait. Some people might already start planning a wedding already, but you wouldn't want to go through all that and then run into complications with the process and end up disappointed or adjusting plans. I really didn't start doing anything until I got the NOA 2 petition approval. I sent in our K-1 petition and essentially forgot about it. Back then, it seemed like a loooong wait. Now almost 3 years later, it was nothing - just under 3 months from the time I mailed it to the time out K-1 petition was approved. Once we got the petition approval, I started researching the next steps here on Visa Journey. I had to complete the visa application, schedule our interview appointment and medical screening, and help my now wife prepare for the interview. That might be the best thing you can do is to look into what you need to do next and get an idea for how long the next steps take. Each country has their own process so my timeframes and the things I had to do might be different than what you will need to do. It's good to read everyone's experiences on here and you may answer some additional questions you have in the process. This initial waiting period is the worst part. After your petition is approved, it goes pretty fast!

Figure out which vaccinations (or proof of them) she may need. Since some require two doses spaced apart, they can be something that ends up taking a while.

The vaccinations are technically a requirement for AOS, and just the first shot in a series woks for filing AOS. You do not need to get the full series before getting the K-1 medical or filing for AOS.
