I was checking my husbands case status and it says "On January 2, 2014, we mailed a notice requesting initial evidence in this case. Please follow the instructions on the notice to submit the evidence requested." Not sure what else I possibly need to provide to them. Any idea what this is?

No one can tell you what the RFE is for. You just have to wait for the letter that tells you. The most common RFE is about the I-864 and financials, but it can be about anything pertaining to your case.

It's just so weird, I mean I provided all the required documents including our daughters birth certificate. I also sent my 2012 W-2 and my most recent pay stub with my 2013 YTD information. Ugh, just one more delay! Thanks for your help.

Wait, you sent only your W-2? If that is the case, then perhaps it is an RFE for your most recent tax return. You need to provide an IRS tax transcript or a complete copy of your return with all forms, schedules, W-2s and/or 1099s. Just the W-2 is not acceptable.

Hmmm that is probably exactly the problem. It wont be much, I had only just moved back here from Mexico in 2012 so my tax return was only for 2 months of work. I think you just answered my question. I must have missed that part or not understood what they were asking of me.

If that is it, then it is an easy fix and you won't have too much of a delay.

I just ordered my transcripts for 2012 to get a head start just in case that is what the issue is. I am pretty sure it is. Thanks for your help. If you wouldn't have answered my topic, I would be going crazy right now. :)

Yes, a complete tax transcript will show them everything they want to see.

So I got the letter and they are asking for the 2012 form 1040. I filled my tax return out on turbotax. I don't have the 1040. I did request my tax return transcript from the IRS and they sent it to me. WIll that be enough?

Yes, they will accept a complete return with the 1040, any schedules, and W-2s, or an IRS tax return transcript.

Will they accept just the transcript? I don't have a 1040.

The tax transcript is what they prefer. The transcript is the 1040 and everything else W2 and any schedules all their and it shows proof you filed.
