Here's some information I pulled together for someone else a few months ago:

It looks like most people get rescheduled within between 1 and 3 months, although anything you do to delay the process will introduce risks. If I were in your place, I'd do my best to attend the interview, but I understand that that's not always possible.

Once you're done with your interview and oath (fingers crossed), please come back and post your experience... Houston applicants have been terrible about sharing information for some reason.

I'm going to try and make the original appointment as I don't want to delay any further. As my luck would have it, my interview was scheduled on the day that I'm having my engagement/wedding photos taken (in Idaho!).... go figure. I'm making plans to move those and fly back that day, but we will see.

I'll keep it updated on my experience in Houston. If everyone is as stressed as me, then more information can only help.

What I will say, for those that do want to reschedule. The interview notice says to return the letter to the local office immediately.... the only issue with that, is it really means write a letter to USCIS and wait for a reply. If you go to the Field Office, they're going to direct you to write that letter.... although..... you can call the 800 number and input a service request instead. I would imagine that speed the process up a bit (hence not using snail mail etc.) Regardless of reschedule request or not, they still say to try and make the original appointment. Hence, I'll probably end up flying back for the day anyways.

My priority date is about a week after yours so if you dont mind please post when your interview date is set for.

Update - Both my husband and I received our interview letters. Letter is dated June 2, received today, June 6. Interview is for July 8th.

our interview is on June 16... so nervous. interview is the same time with my husband. and the kids are coming to us. we don't have relatives to look after them. can we request the officer or anyone there to interview us after the other? by the way were going to be interviewed in Holtsville.

I am happy that the Santa Ana center seems to be moving faster now.

After 3 phonecalls/follow-up within the past 5+ months, I finally received an update today saying "scheduled for interview". My priority date is Jan 21.

Good luck to the rest of us Jan. filers who are still going through the same journey. :)

My interview experience in Long Island City Queens Office.

I arrived in 1:45 pm -half hour earier than schedueled time. Security checked and spoke with receptionist on the first floor. Officer took the appointment letter and instructed me sitting in the waiting room. waited about 10 minutes, another officer called my name and checked my greencard with the appointment letter. Right after return to my seat, my name was called and followed officer go to the second floor waiting room. I was told IO will call for interview through door A or door B. waited 30 minutes, a female IO called my name. I went into her office. I remain stand and swore to tell the truth. Then she have me seated. IO is very nice and professional. We went over my application form. Discussed name change or not. I said no. She also have me print my name on the photes and application. I sign my name on another 2 papers from my folder.

English test part,

IO have me read "which state has the most population?"

I read out loud.

She then wanted me wrote down " California has the most people."

I did correctly.

Civic questions:

1 who can vote?

2 What is 1 reason colonists came to America?

3 During the Cold War, What was the main concern of the United States?

4 Who signs bills to become laws?

5 What is one right or freedom from the first Amendment?

6 If the President can no longer serve, who becomes President?

I got all correct. (English teat took about 2 minutes)

She said Congrats you passed!

She walked me out of the office and told me wait outside for Oath Ceremony letter.

I waited 10 minutes and another lady came out the door C (I guess) to check if anyone waiting for the Oath Ceremony letter. I gave her my approval letter and greencard. she returned my greencard and went into door C. another 10 minutes, my name was called and the same lady gave me the approval letter and Oath Ceremony letter.

My Oath Ceremony will take place in Brooklyn Southern Distrcit Court on 6/19/14.

I had a very nice interview today. Everything goes smoothly.

FYI, there is a parking lot right cross the street. $5 for 2 hours, and $10 for all day. Suv's-$4 extra charge.

Thanks so much! My status online just changed on June 12th, saying I was scheduled for interview....I am now waiting for my letter. I am nervous, I really have to start studying for the civic test

Proud to be American! At last my visa journey come to an end!.. For those who are scheduled for interview, Dress up for your special day! take pictures as much as you can! .. bring the Oath Ceremony - Letter of appointment, your greencard and tissue!.. I cried when I start to sing the American National Anthem. Good luck to you all! I will keep visiting this forum to help out others. God bless America!

pls update my status. had my interview yesterday. we passed and waiting for oath letter. but i received a text this morning that they sent a letter for oath taking in the mail.

holtsville office is not strict when it comes to cellphone and requirements. from the security to the IO officer they are all very nice.

August 1 Priority date
Aug 11 Received NOA1

Sept 29 - NOA2

Oct 11 DS 261 Done

Oct 11 Paid AOS fee

Oct 16 PAID status for AOS Nov 1 IV Fee invoice and Pay

I have been a silent follower and someone should please add me to the timeline. My details and interview experience:

My interview was today, 6.18.2014. I got to the Houston TX office at 12.50pm for a 1.20pm interview. They haven't public parking and had to look for a business parking lot around to park in. After being sworn in, the questions:

1) What does the president cabinet do.
2) What did the declaration of independence do
3) Name one part of the US government
4) How many supreme court justices are there
5) If the president and vice couldn't serve, who becomes president?
6) Forgot!

I passed all 6 and questioning stopped. After that, we took a lot of time, about 30 minutes, to go through my application. Then I was recommended for approval and given the approval form with a note that the oath letter will be forthcoming in the mail.

N400, DO: Houston
1.24.2014: Mailed to Dallas
1.27.2014: Delivered
1.30.2014: Check Cashed, Email and SMS notification received.
2.3.2014: Mailed notification of action received.
2.27.2014: Email/SMS of fingerprint notification
2.10.2014: Received fingerprint appt scheduled for 2.21.2014
2.12.2014: Biometrics done, walk-in.
3.14.2014: Yellow Letter Received.
3.27.2014: In line for interview (Exactly 1month before anniversary)
3.12.2014: Text and email that interview was scxheduled
6.18.14: interview day. Recommended for approval.
