US Permanent Resident traveling to Canada

Hi everyone,

I think I know the answer to this question and I know that it may not be 100% related to the VJ website (which is why I put it in "off topic") but I wanted to ask here first..

My wife (Philippine passport) has her US Permanent Resident card (green card) and would like to go visit her mother who will be in Canada in February with her sister. According to the following webpage, she does NOT need any sort of visa since she has a PR card.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?q=593&t=16

Has anyone had this (or similar) experience? We don't want to assume she doesn't need a visa and then have her turned away at the border. I know that without the PR card, Filipinos are required to have a visa to enter Canada. I will probably contact a Canadian embassy just to be 100% sure but you guys are always my first step smile.png

Any info would help.

Thanks!

Tim & Rocelle

Her Philippines passport and her green card should be good enough. It worked for Chinook and I in 2012. However, her passport's expiration date may be required to be a minimum of six months beyond the travel date. You might want to check into that.

Good point, Tahoma! I think hers is up-to-date and recently renewed but I can't remember... I'll check to make sure. Good reminder, though, for anyone else that reads this post in the future.

Is she planning on flying to Canada? If so, you might want to check out that potential six-month rule with the airlines.

When you say the six-month rule, do you mean for her passport to be valid? I checked last night and it doesn't expire until 2017 so she's good there. Or did you mean something else?

Yes, I meant for her passport to be valid. It's good to hear that her passport doesn't expire until 2017, so she won't have any problem in that regard.
