The K1 is for fiances of American citizens, and the K3 is for spouses of American citizens. the K1 is usually somewhat faster, although not a great deal. Both are nonimmigrant visas and the visa holder has to adjust status in the US after they arrive by filing an I-485 adjustment of status form.

K1 is for engaged couples and K3 is married. It is similar to a IR1 a married visa, but whereas in the K3 you have to apply for a green card when you come, otherwise in the IR1 you automatically do that at the NVC stage, I recommend the IR1, the K3 is a huge waste of money!!
