Somebody close to me was in a car crash late Friday night and a man was killed. The person had been drinking that night. A man was changing a tire of a car that was in a traffic lane and there was a taxi driving in that lane, in front of the car that struck him. The taxi swerved to avoid striking the man and the car behind it struck the parked vehicle. I don't really know much more than that....it's just tragic all around. It will be difficult to determine whether the accident was unavoidable under the circumstances if the person driving had not been drinking. I don't even know what their blood alcohol level was at the time.

Please be careful, especially during this time and don't let anyone get behind the wheel after they've had any drinks. :(

Yeah Steven, excellent advice. I have lost too many people from DD: my best childhood girlfriend... she was drunk...they had to identify her by her dental records....her passenger died as well and one of the other 3 passengers lost a leg......also, several friends from High School - tragically too many to count practically...I'd say it was up around 10 people the year after we graduated, and the last one was in 1999 with a friend whom I watched get struck by a DD and die right there on the street in his cousin's arms. It was the guy's 5th DUI and he killed my dear friend whose brother had also been killed by a DD about 7 years before that. I don't know how his family survived that tragedy.

RIP all my angels....and I will say a prayer for that man's family also.

I was also hit by a DD when I was 16....ironically enough, on Christmas Eve. She slammed into my door at top speed and then proceeded to get out of her car and beat the ####### outta me while I was pinned inside my car all while all the neighbors chanted 'Kill Whitey!'

I wholeheartedly couldn't implore more ppl to be safe and not drink and drive. It's not cool, it's not ok...spend the money and get a taxi or stay where you are until you are sober. Or don't drink! It's not only your life, but it's everyone else's lives ppl put at risk.

Everyone have a safe an happy Christmas.

If you live by the gun, you die by the gun. If one lives their life a sa drunk, why the surprise when they finally get felled by the drinking.

Stay sober..drink milk and water. If you must drike AND drive, drive first then drink, not the other way round. And to drive drunk drivers, stay home when the drunks are driving.

While the "Don't Drink and Drive" message is the most important here, also remember to be careful when exiting and entering your vehicle along traffic areas. You know, like when you park along a curb and open your door on the traffic side, etc.

Steven's poor friend here was changing a tire. There's an attorney in our building who lost a leg when he was changing a tire along the road and was struck by another driver.

Sorry to hear this Steven. Thanks for the reminder.

My mom always says 'it's not what you do right, but what everyone else does wrong'

Btw, I think Steven's friend was the one who struck the man changing the tire. I could be wrong tho.

I found this article that tells a little more... :(

Man killed while assisting motorist

Lindsey Collom

The Arizona Republic

Dec. 23, 2006 06:23 PM

TEMPE - A man who stopped to help a motorist was killed early Saturday when a vehicle struck his truck, causing it to run over him.

Officer Brandon Banks, a Tempe police spokesman, said the victim was assisting the driver of a grey Hyundai in the curb lane of Priest Drive south of Knox Road when a red BMW approached. The BMW was southbound when it came up behind the stopped vehicles about 1:40 a.m. and collided with the truck.

The victim's identity was not available Saturday afternoon.

It was not clear if impairment was a factor.

He will probably never drink again.

People don't realize how impaired they are, or how much of a difference a little alcohol can make, until it's too late.

I was also hit by a drunk driver and broke most of my rib cage and cut my liver in half. And some other misc. damage that left me in the hospital for awhile. All the guy did was enter into the intersection about 5 seconds before his light would have turned green.

Everyone stay safe this holiday season. Maybe reading this story will remind someone else not to drink and drive and will in turn save some lives. (F)
